Why exemusic is missing from pouet?

Yes, right after bp08, i looked into the .zips.
So, the news about them having mp3s (or even a wav!!) (inside the zip or an exe) is old.
My Point: Why release these files for executable Music? Isnt executable Music meant to be small and contain softsynth or sth?
And if these contain mp3, why not release em at streaming compo?

Captain: Those files are the files submitted to the compo. Probably those people wanted to "prove" that this is actually not cheated by included sources, etc...? :P
yep, but that's another issue and has definitely nothing to do with "cheating".

It's true that 48 mb is perhaps too much. If exe mzk prods they were in pouet a "mp3" a link could be added as demos/intros do add a "video", to avoid heavy downloads. Or may be in 2008 few mb is not much of an issue, i don't know.

Well, in my book, circumventing preselection for streaming compo by attaching a mp3-player and call it "executable" _is_ cheating.

ARGH DUDE

delete the mp3s and run the .exe again and see how very wrong you are.

ok so after the initial shock, here's a more elaborate rant:

- the compo rules strictly state that the executable size must not go over the limit. if you assume people "circumvented it" by taking an mp3 player and a datafile, you're basically implying that the bp organizers are utterly incompetent and should not be organizing parties, and that the whole exemusic category is basically useless.
- mp3s are often provided because of the wide range of platforms, i.e. compatibility. people who cant run the original (because, say, it's on amiga) can listen to the mp3.
- you falsely allege that "the exe-s are 3mb" - no exes are above the sizelimit, and they run perfectly well if you run them isolated from the rest of the archive.

you take too long typing, gargaj :)

actually i think all exe music releases should be advised to include the generated mp3, specially if the music is nice enough to be played again.

now great demos provide their videos, that's similar.

iq: so i dont refresh before posting, so what >_<

zest: i still think wav-writers (or even avi-writers in demos) should be a good idea.

why bother, there's .kkapture :>

... which still doesn't work on all demos because there seems to be a competition about "most fucked up API misuse" running that I don't know of.

Oh, and what the "nectarine and bitjame are enough" guys said.

kb, I'd blame the tasteless guys who designed and documented the APIs in the first place, though.

kb, it was started on simulaatio 2 to piss ryg off and then passed on my word of mouth only. everybody swore not to tell any germans so ryg wouldnt find out. the others will probably hate me for it, but i think the joke has lasted long enough now.

Nectarine and Bitjam are all well and good if you want to look at music in isolation, but something like demozoo where you can search for a particular person and see absolutely EVERYTHING ever produced by that person is a very neat resource in my opinion. Shame gasman seems to have given up on it...
knos, trust me, i'm reading eg. console developer MLs/newsgroups on a regular basis so I know hundreds of ways of "not understanding how a library might work and how to use it" that I'd never ever imagined. Then again perhaps I'm just applying too much common sense when I'm coding myself, who knows :)
