browser music plugins ? project ? -> sound plugin installer for all browsers

category: general [glöplog]

Long time ago (1998) I wanted to make some little project for webpages. But in that time M$ started monopolizing browsers and the plugins strategy. So the plugin projects died.
Most users don't know that those old netscape plugins are still working.
Those I got in contact with the coders were "modplug" & "stplug" for regitrystuff to make them work on IE. But also "sidplug" is working with this little regsitrytrick by Leonard / Oxygene.
Stuff can be found here:
http://risky.de/indexed/plugin/

Somebody interested in including more plugins like this in one installer? Some kind like codec packs :)

Would be nice to play scene format musics in scene webpages.
It was so nice to see/hear those different pages/webs not like the rest.
If we include enough plugins this could become a internet traffic resolving solution. Perhaps all those plugins can become standard one day. Like already playable in XMplay or winamp.

If you think this thread is crap than just delete it.

I loathe sound on webpages.... all webmasters using this "technology" ought to die....
a horrible death.

@seppjo: I used to use sidplug for my personal web pages and I know how Microsoft killed that technology. I remember some words of the sidplug developers telling that they had no time to follow Microsoft's changes and release a path for that, so they've given up the project. I also remember that after a while registry tricks didn't work either. So, I'm not sure if it's possible to use sidplug today. If sidplug still works today, this codec pack could be intersting for me.

a path = a patch

Yep right, never tested it for long time. It only works on FF, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera never on IE now. :(
Does somebody know why? also the IE shows that the plugin is needed. Also the "PLUGIN" directory is there. After installing it it doesn't work? uäähhh

I listen to my own music, and I definitely will close and blacklist any web page that will play any sound whatsoever, and I don't think I'm the only one. Just so you know.

@preacher: I do that, too. Except on scene pages. There I like to find surprises. :) Somebody knows, why it don't work on IE?

Some examples:

http://risky.de/warnke/main.htm modplug

Of course for M$ security reasons, they've made some changes on browser plugin system. If you re-write or modify these plugins, I'm sure they will work. But who is gonna do that? me? hell no :)

ok will research by myself. :( normally the IE engine is a gecko so it was manipulated by M$. I'm shure there is a solution. If anybody find it, please post it here. Also I will do so.
If I make it work I'll do some kind of chipchart with the real soundformats and not those shitty in mp3 converted stuff. Hope those nice exotic formats will never die.

Try uade (:

(Ok, it doens't compile on Windows. And it isn't a plugin for webpages. But it plays the actual files themselves, properly. And when they don't play properly shd and co. start fixing it (: )
oh and also surfsmurf's 0ldskOol player, and there is also a YM plugin that works in winamp.

But please, do NOT use mikmod (DIE MIKMOD DIE BURN MIKMOD BURN) as it simply cannot handle mods properly. And I don't think it handles xm or it properly either. I'm not so keen on modplugplayer either, because it screws up mods similarly. However, it does play modplug modules... so.

But for the exotic bits, uade. And for sid, catweasel + sid + a sidplayer that uses the actual sid chip.

And, of course, the BEST way is to get the original hardware.
Thank you T I. Actually have it. the oldsk00l player is great can also play custom amiga formats. Could listen to "Battle Sqadron" Title song. :) A very good one. http://www.rift.dk/download.php?list.3
Only want to use it for Webpages, now. I'm still searching for a solution to do an IE ActiveX Plugin that emulates a port for the "netscape plugins". If this will be possible it's a very funny idea. M$ will like it. :)

That's a Tau, and the letter L.

Which is pronounced 'Truck.'

Don't forget to visit the Exotica pages as well.
Not a browser plugin but still interesting...

Acctually i think support for playing music on websites is a good idea. I think what people really hate is the midi or annoying chap chap wav being looped on webpages with a starfield in the background.

I bet noone here would cry if there was a "play tune" on pouet on each prods, maybe while trying to locate some specific tune. Or if you could use proper mp3/ogg on websites that really need to redist sound (say, "play" on nectarine, "play" on your favourite commercial tv channel wanting people to vote for "american idol" ripoffs) etc etc.

Ofcourse there shouldnt be played any music if the one browsing doesnt want too, but thats up to the browser to be user friendly (see: popups).

Oh i forgot to write that it shouldnt need any damn add-on plugins and what else. Build something into the damn standards so it really can be handled by the browsers !

It seems this works:

1. Reinstall ActiveX control for Netscape plugin Instructions found at http://www.activepdf.com/support/knowledgebase/viewKb.cfm?id=10246&tk=sp
plugin.ocx download http://www.ocxdump.com/download-ocx-files_new.php/ocxfiles/P/plugin.ocx/6.00.2800.11066/download.html[url] copy in "system32" directory. Activate with cmd "regsvr32 plugin.ocx".

2. After 1 the Registryhacks will rework. [url]http://entropymine.com/jason/replug/pluginocx.html

3. I will do a complete batch that installs the told plugins + active x control for netscape plugins + registryhacks . Also this makes it possible that the Netscape plugins rework on all IE Versions. Funny :) Never testet it till yet. will test it in a few hours.

What about some kind of scenemusic.net in a Webpage with real formats/charts/playlist instead of mp3?

http://www.plopbox.net \o/

since a lot of people asked for it, as soon as I will have some free time, there will be the plopbox player applet, to include on your own web, with a very small interface (like winamp when it's shown as a single bar)

btw, continue posting your tunes and logos =)
