Thats why we are suggesting so much updates to pouet, to keep you from making demos !

hr hr.. no but seriously, i think this could be a great thing to pouets database, and it would give you a reason to remove some stupid fucking hardcoded switch's ;-)

look, stefan, if it's done ppl will ask for
"Needed processor : p3 500,MMX,SSE"
"Needed videocard: g3 64mb" etc...

People already have asked for that, but its not really technical suitable... This sollution however is.

And then? I and a friend have the same GFX-chip but there's a FR demo which runs on his computer but not on mine. So even that information wouldn't help in all cases.
Madenmann:
I know youre not very intelligent or anything, but this is not about informing people of what will run on their setups, its about being able to sort and display data without having it look retarded. As it is today we have Linux platform but an iPod demo, that runs on linux, on what platform? Ipod! Hurray!

Stefan:
seriously.
It runs on a freaking ipod.
it's a freaking ipod demo.
It doesn't run on a freaking c64.
It runs on a freaking ipod.
It doens't run on a freaking mac.
It runs on a freaking ipod.
It doesn't run on a cray.
It runs on a FREAKING IPOD!
It might even run on a nonfreaking ipod.
It's an ipod demo.
You load it on an ipod, and it runs. Sometimes.
(Kinda like a win32 demo which might need some wierdass 4k beta library, or a set of shaders, or whatnot.)

Your demagoguery concerning making the platform description match the demo exactly is misplaced.

I saw 'ipod demo' and read the nfo file and learned that it might run on my ipod.

This did not require a freaking PHD in English. (Thus, I did not confuse it with Norwegia.)

I found more information about it from following information available in the .nfo file.

No, not everyone writes a freaking nfo file that's helpful, but some do, and this...

this is an example of 'coding around the problem.'

Anyway, it's a FREAKING IPOD DEMO THAT - GASP - RUNS ON A FREAKING IPOD!

No, I'm not buying you an ipod so you can run it.

Seriously, I don't see any benefit to your request. I see more benefit to you releasing another DXM demo (: Maybe one about Vicodin!
Stefan: is it necesseray to say who look like a retard with athread on a non-problem addressed several times ?

If you can't watch the prod on the real HW or SW, watch the video capture and go suck a pole of plutonium.

Ok, on the osX thing, with the intel bits:

Ok, yes, THAT could be an issue. I see where you're going with that.

Mind you, folks should make 2 versions, but I can see why they wouldn't since a 'fat' 64k binary would be larger than 64k. Or could be... thus, an issue.

Still, I think a better way to address this (aside from a silly matrix of what runs on what) would be to have 2 osX categories, and when a production runs on both intel and PPC, we get 2 icons.

I especially like this solution because it will mean osX productions will get 2 icons, and look more important.
While stefan's suggestion may seems like overdoing things, it does show a slight inconsistency in the way products are categorized.

Sure, the release that sparked this thread may run on a milky-white mp3 player, but the actual thing that made s it possible is linux, not the player itself. We're happy to make a distinction for PC releases when it comes to operating systems though. Yay.

This is just the kind of moment that needs a Linux demo hardwired to run on Xbox only :)

Domfries:
I don't see the intresting in running stuff on "exotic" hardware by crosscompiling, no I don't. And I haven't seen the ipod demo either so I have no idea if it's good or not. (Running a demo on a pokemonmini with own hardware hacks etc is not really comparable to a crosscompile with gcc imho.)

Quite frankly I just think the system today is quite stupid, its odd that a stoned dutchman is the only one to really get the point excep the admin(?)

i dont deny the current db could be better categorized.
i just dont wanna do the insane update.
feel free to apply for scene.org phpwhore job and discuss pouet updates with analogue and implement them yourself. by all means. do.
