Pilgrimage 2005 on its way!

category: general [glöplog]
....and no, I don't plan on posting a message to pouet every 10 minutes about it, but I haven't posted here for months, so you can stomach one message.

The
Pilgrimage 2005 web site is up and running, with more details to be posted as they become available.

Hehe, with the first sentence you take away the ground for my "let the spam begin". That's bad, but I'll don't mind. Best wishes for the party and good luck for your fights against that damn Eurotrash. :)

Oh and: Please don't forget to explain us what a wildcard compo is. Last year I was a bit confused.
Sorry... :D

Seriously though, let's see what you can come up with this year :)

I might come! :) Seriously. I'll be in the States then. And I consider entering a demo to the compo too. But what an odd rule this is:

"Maximum run time is 10 minutes. Any entry exceeding 4 minutes will be judged on the first 4 and then terminated."

Legalize: Would you cut Mona Lisa in half? ;) I bet you don't usually watch the "first 4 minutes" of Second Reality.

I think that rule makes sense. If your prod sucks within the first 4 minutes, chances are all 10 minutes suck. If they don't you, as a demomaker, should visit a certain shoppe and have the fine people working there (Triton, Pulse, CNCD and TBL) tell you a thing or two about how demos should be.
...and dont forget to come to inerciademoparty2005

A great big thank you to whoever redesigned the website for 2005. I came -> <- this close to jamming a rusty railroad spike through my eyes last year.

Last year the wildcard compo was an "anything goes" competition, intended for submissions that did not necessarily fit in any of the other categories.

I agree with Gem. True art requires more than four minutes. True art requires four minutes and thirty-three seconds. It's a fact.
I wouldn't exactly ask Triton how demos "should be". and yeah the 4 minute thing is ridiculous. It's not like the demo compo could end up being too long anyway.

a good rule is something like "the organizers reserve the right to stop your demo before it is finished it they want to do so. the usual reasons, which you then should strive to avoid, are: 1) it is reeeeeeeeally boring, 2) it's total crap or 3) the sound is making ears bleed".

gloom, disagree. play the demo, or don't. but not in between. remember bp05? (well of course you don't cause you had a party to organise, but i guess you read the threads about prematurely ending the kooi wild and the nosfewild affair after that)

skrebbel: sure, i agree that showing stuff to it's full extent is the way to go. but just in case someone delivers a 25-minutes remix of a certain "ett skritt til venstre"-demo, you should include a rule you COULD utilize. if you actually do it or not is a different question.

agreed that you need the rule as some lame disclainer but, well,

just don't play it.

my original idea was that why terminating it after 4mins if 10mins is allowed, or otherwise, why setting a 10mins limit, if you terminate it after 4mins anyway. so i think that this double limit is strange, even if it might work ok.

4mins is pointlessly thight imo, but after all, even 16 secs can be fun ;)

dominei is a poopyhead
... now why would anyone want to stop a remix of ett skritt til ventste :(

possibly because being forced into a circus act of sucking your own dick on stage would be more rewarding than another one of those norwegian abortions.

imho, that is.

Leia: They've won at a party, now they won't come again. :/
Besides that: I won't go to the finnish party of the year. :(

Sounds like this rule is intended for the preselection, not the actual compo?

Uh oh. No MFX&Kewlers Birthday party for you?

Thanks for the comments on the rules. As always with our event, the rules are always flexible. Do you have an entry that's longer than 4 minutes? Talk to us! We have the freedom to suspend any rule we like for whatever reason we like. We put the rules out there so you know what is expected, but that doesn't mean you can't go "outside the box" if you're so inclined.

A perfect example was at our first Pilgrimage where we had a published deadline for the entries. However, we slipped that deadline on purpose to allow one of the competitors more time to work on their demo, which they had only coded that day at the party. Unfortunately it still wasn't enough time to get all the bugs worked out, but the point is that we cut them some slack because it was the right thing to do.

So hey, if you have an entry for our compo that doesn't exactly fit what the rules say, then come talk to us.

If you don't have an entry for our compo, why do you care about the rules? :-)
