.kkapture 0.01 - demo capturing made easy (hopefully)

category: code [glöplog]
http://www.farb-rausch.de/~fg/kkapture

well, i need user reports to make this as cool as i want it to be, and i don't have the time and hd space to make video captures of everything for testing purposes, so feel free to test, tell me about bugs and contribute patches :)

sorry, you seem to have a typo or two, it's spelled "capture".

Great :) This couldn't be better timed as I am currently investigating re-encoding scene.org awards videos for our FMX/05 screening.

Does not work here. I tested it with http://sole.scenesp.org/prods/ppg_cc.zip (is mine) and it fails just after initializing the sound.

I use BASS (no jokes this time..) + opengl.
Has the demo to be directX?

The log says:
Code: ... sound: emulating DirectSound 8 (created via CoCreateInstance) sound: dsound initialize sound: buffer created video: ChangeDisplaySettingsEx main: shutting down... avi: stopped recording avi: avifile shutdown complete

After that it exits. Avi file=0bytes.
no, d3d9/opengl are supported. apparently the demo exits (or crashes) just after sound init.

FR, official tools providers for the demoscene :)

What next? .kkartoffel and .kkurrywurst, the demoscene tools to peel Kartoffeln and cook Currywürste during parties?

yes, that's what it makes. Of course it works properly when no using kkapture :)

I don't know if this is a bug report or if this helps you.
okay, very nice app. clean and simple. worked with the fuzzion 4k intro. nothing happend when i tried to capture keyboarders - modus exodus. but i think there is something really fishy with the keyboarders demo ;) . debugview gave me thing special.

ryg, this is awesome. i understand it's a very early version, but i tried it on fr-030, captured for some time to uncompressed avi, and ended up with about 4.1gigs of avi. (6800 frames or so). however the first 3600 frames were corrupted. it seems like the image has been shifted and rgb channels like separated... is there a problem in your code handling such big avi files? are you planning to implement automatic splitting. what are the recommended settings for like getting the best quality that works.
i'm also interested if someone already got some good settings for encoding to DVD (mpeg2, like interlacing etc...)
keep up the good work!

avifile (the windows api i'm using for capturing) can't handle files bigger than 4gb correctly. this might explain the troubles you're having.

i think the only way to fix that problem is to use another way of video encoding; but my first priority right now is getting it to run more stable and on more demos.

Very cool Ryg. Obviously this is of particular interest to the Mindcandy team, and we'll be watching your progress closely. Also happy to beta test or contribute however we can.

I just tried to capture Aether / MFX and got this error close to the end:

The instruction at "0x0ca509fc" referenced memory at "0x0ca509fc". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

End of log file says:

main: shutting down...
avi: stopped recording
avi: exception during avifile shutdown, video may be corrupted
avi: avifile shutdown complete

The AVI was corrupt. Hope that's helpful.

ryg,
i just tried the .kkapture on one of our demos, and it gives me the same "video might be corrupted"-error. Tell me if i can be any assistance and send you more info about it...

Great tool BTW.

it's not going to help me to watch hplus is it? :(

I'll test it next time i need to capture something. From the sound of it, its definately a welcome addition to the toolset, good work ryg!

i get the same bug, but with everything i try to capture. the sound gets fucked up aswell.

though, if i just capture a few seconds of something, it seems to work just fine..

(is this a bugreport? who knows!)
