category: parties [glöplog]
Is this going to happen?

One thing we can sadly say for certain is that Nordlicht will *not* happen in the Lichthaus on the announced dates.

We are looking into alternative plans though and will inform you once we know more. Stay tuned!

There is a pending organizer meeting in which we'll discuss the next steps.

What we know for certain so far:
- NORDLICHT, the physical demoparty as it was originally planned, will NOT happen from 17th - 19th July, due to restrictions imposed by the local government.

What we need to discuss:
- whether to cancel or postpone the event to a later date or move it "online".

The results of that meeting will be posted here within the next two weeks.
tl;dr: don't book your flight or train tickets yet!

What we've learned about online events so far...
It's like there is a demoparty happening but you are not attending and won't see your friends.
You can watch compos at home in bad quality but the releases are not as good as last year.
If you want your release to be shown, you have to pay for it while everyone else gets it for free.
The voting results are even more weird than on regular parties where everybody is more or less drunk.

Sorry, that's just not true, 3 out of 4 of the online demoparties so far accepted remote entries...

Nordlicht isn´t cancelled, arbitrary unforseen delays are a standard feature of german rail!

What havoc said.
I think most people who buy a ticket for an online party don't necessary do that because they desperately want to vote or submit their entry via the party upload system but because they want to support the party.

And personally, I think the prices for online party tickets are affordable (1 regular ticket and 10+ for supporter tickets for outline for example was perfect and worth every penny).
Even if there wouldn't be any expenses for an online party (there are tho. Party expenses are not just paying the location), I'd be happy to have bought some of the organizers a drink for all the effort to have a bit of refreshment during the party.

As sad as it is with the not-having-a-hundred-people around, -- of course I don't know where most of you live, but e.g. in Baden-Württemberg we're now allowed to have up to 20 people at a private event. So one can actually participate in an online demoparty in a pretty nice circle of friends...

sure, you'd have to select a few. but still. things are looking better..
