Giving away GBA flash linker cart

category: general [glöplog]

Hi GBA developers and GBA demo fans. I've invested in a new GBA flash cart, because I couldn't get my old EFA Extreme Flash Advance 512Mb (the "Long Card" version, no RTC) to work.
I use Linux exclusively now, and tried it on a Windows 10 32-bit VM. The driver installed, the card LEDs light up, but the software just wouldn't work. If you have a real 32-bit system or maybe a Windows XP VM you might have more luck, but I have given up...
If you pay the postage to your location, I will stuff the thing in a padded envelope and send it to you...

I'd want it... if I wouldn't be using Linux, too.

OTOH, I could try writing some drivers for it...

That would save it from the trash can. Might be possible if you capture USB packets or disassemble the driver and software. Drop me your details on rarefluid ääät untergrund dot net if you want the cart.

I feel the same as porocyon. Lack of non-Windows drivers is no fun, and it would probably sit on a shelf for a few dozen years before I spare the time to write drivers for it :(.
Hi there. I happen to have the same flash linker cart and I can confirm the software for it only runs in 32-bit Windows XP. It should run fine inside a VM as well, though so that's probably the easiest option.

If you still need the linker software (website is long gone), I can send it to you :)

might be a silly question but : did you try the software in wine?

Msk: Yes. Does not work, as you need to install the drivers too.

A linux driver and software would be nice (I hate stuff that just breaks because of support), but honestly, being able to drap&drop your files to an SD card is the most convenient OS-agnostic way to go, so I'll save myself the hassle and work on that GBA demo from Evoke instead... ;)

Looks like we should get together and hack on it :D

Too lazy, sorry. I have already so many bottomless crap projects to procrastinate on... ;)

Just to say I bought an EZ-Flash Omega cart and it works nicely. Runs all GBA demos I tried (even with low wait states) and games and has a convenient MicroSD slot. So if you're looking for a GBA flash cart, I can recommend that one.

...cart is gone...

I found another contraption here someone might have use for: A GBA to TV converter. Exchange the bottom shell of the GBA, clip in a flat band cable and you have composite and S-Video output (if your TV syncs to the signals). You could actually watch analog TV on the thing too, but that won't work anymore in lack of analog TV stations...

Giving the thing away for free again. Pay postage to a european destination and I'll mail it to you.

I have the same TV output addon. If anyone is wondering how the output looks, these two demos were captured using the addon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTFlx3zzJ40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkZ6yp_hpA8

If I had a classic style GBA I'd be interested, but I guess it's not of much use with an SP.

neon, did it have a scaling switch? I think one we used had it, basically option between black borders or ugly nearest neighbour scaling. (the video caps look like they've been scaled like that).

dodke: My tv output thingy only has a on/off and picture on/off switches. I agree that the scaling is horrible. Maybe I should write something that unscales the video.

My device has a non-scaling option as well, but on the other hand the quality it outputs is quite bad...

lynn: Just buy one! :)

kusma: I'm waiting for the GBA consolizer to become available. Perfect output quality.

So. The thing went up on Ebay, if anyone is interested now, go there.
