looking for trackers that support txt-based formats, besides VortexTracker

category: music [glöplog]

hi everyone!

i’m looking for trackers that supports txt-based formats, just like VortexTracker (thanks a lot Sergey Bulba for such amazing idea!) - do anyone know something?

i’m asking this because for me it’s far more comfortable to compose music on text editors, and having such relevant feature would be amazing

as far as i could see, it seems to be perfectly easy to have a txt equivalent format to the usual .mod, .xm, .it, .s3m, etc. - this example is based on a .mod with 8 channels: https://pastebin.com/raw/LxPCZkgu - i don’t know if we need to create some kind of documentation for helping trackers developers including that, this would be really great

i were also trying to contact trackers developers via forum, irc, github messages, with no relevant success yet

please let me know about (i guess more people here is also interested about this?), and thanks in advance!
Renoise (via XML) and MPT (copy/paste and patterns only, I think)

And stuff like Csound.

about MPT, i asked them again on the forum: https://forum.openmpt.org/index.php?topic=5816.0 (the previous message there was years ago, i have no idea where is it now)

Aria Maestosa (a great editor indeed) is also xml-based, but it’s more focused on .mid format... :S

i didn’t heard about csound, thanks!
@ferris i prefer ghex, bless, or khexedit, i’m a GNU/Linux user! ;p
you can hand-edit renoise files. if you like 700kb of xml that is. just unzip the .xrns file and edit Song.xml.

I think MML (Music Macro Language) is/was quite popular for NES/Famicom music composing?
FamiTracker has text import/export, 1tracker uses plain text for everything.

https://github.com/olofson/audiality2 uses a text format for everything, and I feel like it sounds darn good. At the very least look at the included examples.

The unmaintained Project Drainpipe has a json output format: http://www.pouet.net/topic.php?which=9007.

Try 4klang. Edit the .inc file, you can compose your stuff into the source code.
