CGA-Scene (Demos/Intros/Slideshows/Graphics)

category: general [glöplog]

Hi, can we please collect all CGA-scene-stuff here.

Greetings
Doc
Afaik these things will work:

http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=61483 (Demo/Intro)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=64406 (Best CGA-Demo/Intro if you only have rgb)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=63627 (Intro/Intro)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=58526 (Intro/Intro)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=68386 (Slideshow)
The first prods by Sorcerers are for CGA, as well as Gr8 by FC.

http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=58529 (smooth mono video on 7MHz 8086 apparently - link is broken though)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30355 (uses the 160x100x16 tweaked text mode)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=65292 (some nice effects - had some issues on real hardware before Scali fixed it)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=4107 (text mode)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=4076 (first ever PC demo?)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=59024 ("Arguably the first non-crack scene intro for the PC" according to Phoenix)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=59025 (text mode)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=69802 (256b, text mode)

Also see http://www.pouet.net/lists.php?which=53 which is where I found some of these.

Some minor corrections: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=26086 is a GBA remake of a CGA demo, not actually a CGA prod. http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=63591 isn't text mode (but some of the videos are encoded for composite output).

Sorry about that! We had to make some compatibility sacrifices to appease the gods of CGA. Some of the effects are more compatible than others, but it really needs a 4.77MHz Intel 8088 with composite IBM CGA to work properly (and even then there seem to be some clones where the motherboard timing is slightly different).

Thx!
While not obvious, http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30354 supports CGA.

Duh, on a second thought Gr8 is probably EGA, not CGA :/

can confirm that :)

hopefully we will see more cga-productions in the future :)
Not a prod exactly, but I just posted some CGA graphics over on Vogons.

I found a CGA starfield which is really nice.
I have the sources, would be nice to "modify" it to change to another moving direction.

Recently no new cga-stuff was released.

I did some PureBasic experiments with OSX/PPC on a G4, but there are lots of problems with the purebasic-code on osx while missing some additional libs to get the cracktro-remakes working on that platform.

I just released some composite CGA Mandelbrot stuff over at VCFed. I'm not sure I'd describe it as a prod just yet, so I haven't added it to pouet, but it might be the start of a prod.

Talking of CGA starfields, the one from 8088 MPH has sources online. Might be awkward to get it compiling and running, but I came up with lot of different particle motions, only one of which we ended up using in the demo.

My Schneider EuroPC has no composit CGA, but there are some games that do show more then 4colors at once like CaliformiaGames. I currently use my 1084 for both C64/EuroPC.
The old AGI Adaventures normally start in cga nonochrome, but it looks like lowres pattern monochrome, not hires (640x200). Ingame it's possibe to change to color, but I don't know how to switch the palettes. After some gaming :) I think the BW-Cga is really good. Perhaps better then cga-color.

SIERRA.COM loader include :

-c = Force CGA Composite Color Mode
-e = Force EGA
-h = Force Hercules
-r = Force CGA RGB Color Mode
-p = Force "PC Mode"
-s = Unknown
-t = Force Tandy 1000 Graphics and/or Sound
-v = Force MCGA/VGA
Normally some text-mode stuff (80x25) should work on CGA too?
