Help finding old Fairlight demo

category: general [glöplog]

Hi,

I remember a Fairlight demo on the Commodore Amiga 500 from my childhood which ive been looking for again for years. I cant remember the name though.

It started off as if you were falling and spinning through golden/beige tree-tops/leaves. Towards the end it had some 3D space ship flying over a green 3D land...using the same 3D techniques as in that helicopter game on the amiga called z-wolf.

It also had the obligatory spinning cubes..I think they were red and blue.

I think also whenever a new graphics technique was displayed in the demo, they would describe it with text next to the image.

If anyone knows which demo im talking about, then please could you let me know.

Thank you very very much!

I'm sorry, I'm drawing a blank. Is there ANYTHING else you can remember, like, tune? names other than 'fairlight' - approximate year?
Well I can remember the tune exactly - shame I cant describe it on here.

I think it came off a CDPD cd-rom on that A570 cd-rom drive for the Amiga, so the year was probably around 1992 maybe. I think it was a late demo due to its advanced graphics for the time (not just a simple text scroller).

The stand-out feature was this 3D blue space ship flying over a 3D polygon green and hilly landscape. After a few seconds of this I think the space ship shot upwards and you heard a big explosion which cut the music for a few beats.

It may not even have been Fairligh although im fairly certain I saw their name...I must have only been 11 or 12 years old at the time...so very hard to remember.

Any further help is very much appreciated.

OK here is another one :

All I remember is that that was supposed to be either a 'demo' or a collection of music, on C64 always. It featured a starfield, some sprites dancing I think in the front. Part of the music was :

http://www.navis.demoscene.gr/Record.mp3

I am trying to find it ever since. The since was 1987.
I had sleepness nights over this.

Help me find it and amusic will get you a beer at BP. Or I can get you one at the gathering, it's up to you !

That sounds like Absolute Inebriation.

Shit, I've never seen that. Right, will be writing that to floppage... also it's not on my CDPD cd, tho I discovered it had a lot of mods (: So, bonus (:

Navis: don't know, my suggestion is to go thru the entire HSVC til you find it. That's how I discovered the 2nd screen from 'new wave' by MSI was by Jeroen Tel - which I never knew til I started thru it. (Oh, I'd found the sid before on sid search, looking for various things that eventually led to it, but it was mis-categorized a few years ago or something and thus when it was re-categorized properly, I lost it again. But now I know - hooray!)
ABSOLUTE INEBRIATION!

Thats it!

After all these years...13/14 years! Its not exactly how I remember it, I think over the years I must have mixed it up with various other demos. But I knew I had seen the fairlight logo in it somewhere...not sure what role fairlight played in this demo.

Anyway great demo, great music and thank you so much phoenix!!!

Cheers :D

you're welcome, i'm glad my memory is still good for something. :)

the fairlight logo is in the middle of the demo, i think. virtual dreams was a demo sub-group of fairlight, so the group names are often interchanged (i.e. vd/flt) when referring to their 92-96 amiga demos.

I see, interesting.

I'm actually having problems running "Absolute Inebriation" all the way through. Whatever configuration I use in Win UAE, it crashes right after the Farilight logo. IT seems other people have this problem too with no resolution, anyone have any fixes?

Great to find like-minded people by the way, I had no idea the demo/prod scene was still so alive! Serpent - what great music it has indeed! :D

Well I finally found it today. It is called 'Kawasaki rythm rocker'. It took 20 years but worthed the trouble. Now, after answering all my questions, I can die peacefully...
