GFX Card for PEEZEE

category: general [glöplog]
Hey, Currently I got an AMD 1,4GHZ, 1024MB RAM, ATI RADEON VIVO.
And I have experienced more and more demos not working. (fukkin hardware dependant scene man :( ) So I need some tips on what kind of gfx card I should buy to be able to see the latest/future demos. And I dont wanna use like 450 USD on some super-giga-ultra Geoforce666 Demon Satanic card.

Any tips on a cheap and good card that will make do for most demos.

What alien prescribed ought to be the barebones minium if you want to see some of the more recent ps2-hungry demos.

You'd still be begging for mercy with some of the fillrate killers out there though.

isn't there supposed to be some real decent ati ps3 cards soonish? my personal hardware zealot told me it's going to kick the nvidia cards' butts or something.

gf 6600gt is looking like the current generation scene standard (like the radeon 9600 and the gf ti 4200 before it) - pretty cheap, very powerful.

with a 1,4 gighertz processor, a 6600gt would be overkill. i would go for the rad 9600xt.
which of course, i have
why? it's not like any demos use the cpu for anything really. usually. the point is ps3.

hmm, if the pixel shader is the bottleneck, people could push more complex geometry and get roughly the same performance, right? The CPU could be used then for tesselation, bone animation etc... I see a possibility for limit pushing here

smash: I think the 9700 was the standard not the 9600, at least considering the compomachines... (imho)

skrebbel: It's called the X1800 (I think) but the asskickery is.. well... not as severe as I (or I guess most people) personally expected.

yeah. ati doesn't kick ass as much as we wanted anymore. and where's natasha?!?

anyways, for a really cheap but still okayish card radeon 9600 is a good choice. renders even most of the current demos still with decent framerate.

As Smash said, a 6600GT right now seems to be the best option. Go for a 256mb one if you can afford it.

maybe a 6800GS if you can go for a PCI-X card : a blasting performance, usually provided with fast 256MB, and for a price of 240-270 fr euros (a 6600GT is now 150-180 fr euros).

but the 6600GT has still the best quality/price ratio imho.

*BUMB*!
Any good suggestions on a new gfx card that will show all fancy pantsy demos shown at BP. The 6600GT is getting tierd.

tft: If you want to see the upcoming demos, I suggest you also upgrade the rest of your system. A 1.4 GHz AMD processor is getting equally tired to that graphics card.

I suggest everyone go back into coding software demos. then these threads wouldn't ever be necessary!!
