As soon as the social circumstances equal those in the 1930's, it is highly likely that a likewise evil movement will arise once again. Denying that is crap. The popularity of the "Nazi's" back them, as I already said before, has little to do with the essence of the ideology.

Niels: I'd like to be sceptic about this one. People say that history repeats itself but it never repeats itself exacly. The reason the NSDAP came to power was not just some unfortunate circumstanses but a consequence of the 1st WW.

Yours aren't a field day either. First it's the Allied Forces that made you guys ban the symbols, next you bring up the Great War that made you do it the first place. Is there anything that the Germans can be held accountable for then, or did the devil make you do this post to boot?

Actually, about a year ago apparently some German government did a survey in all countries neighbouring Germany about how the people there viewed the Germans.
Naturally the Dutch liked the Germans best.
As such, the only conclusion about the high Dutch presence in this thread that could be made is that we care, and want to help!

Oh yeah? Come and get us! Back in '39 Poland staged a good fight. Much better than certain western european coutries... We would have lasted even longer if the Soviets didn't invade us from the east on Sept. 17th. Not to mention that our western allies vowed to attack Germany if they attacked us, but they never did, not until the Germans came for _them_. And if the Soviets did not invade Poland in '20 we could have defeated Hitler alltogether in '39 and all these atrocities would not happen... I think not many people in the western europe realizes that if the Soviets 1920 campain succeeded, the SU would eventuall have conquered the europe all the way to Portugal...
That's my little historical rant. Please note I am part German, and I don't have hard feelings towards present day Germans nor people of FSU nations...

That's utter nonsense. The only reason Poland lasted that long was because they had more homeland to retreat into :)
They screwed up the border defense and were pretty much rushed off to the southeast. The only hope they had was Allied assistance, which simply didn't materialize (like you mentioned).
Considering the state they were in, I doubt that they would've made any progress even without the Red Army mopping up the job prematurely.

They sure messed up in some places, displayed unparalelled heroism in others, and generaly held on much longer than anyone expected - regarding the very limited resources they had. Even after the capitulation, Poland had the largest resistance movement in the occupied Europe, ranking as much as 1 million people according to some researchers...
On the second thought - please excuse excessive sabre waving on my part, everone. Our generation is _so_ lucky, that we can waste time online instead sitting in the trenches trying to kill one another... brrr...

Anyway, no country was without it's standoffs. After the dutch noticed their craptacular WWI tank was no match for the german plural and the classic "lets puncture our dikes" trick didn't stop paratroopers in the least, we did manage a standoff. Shame that this prompted the Germans to bomb the bejesus out of Rotterdam to make the dutch cut that shit out. They were in kind of a hurry :(
