Impossible games

category: general [glöplog]
i was playing the game 'Arabian nights' on the C64 the other day, thinking that surely, no human has ever possibly finish this. It is so difficult that I cannot win even with all the cheats on.

Has any of you readers ever come across frustrating, impossible to finish games ?

well, not on c64, but on gameboy I never managed to finish "ghostbusters 2". a friend of mine was alot better, but even he didn't manage to finish it (although he finished all the mega man titles, which are also pretty hard)

I remember some preety hard games on the CPC.
Once, I discovered some pokes for infinite lifes for Commando, but still screaming and cursing after level 7! I think I never finished that one, although perhaps it just looped the levels with harder sprites..

Once we've found a cheap cheat for infinite lifes in Nemesis CPC and my brother was playing for 8 hours to finish it.

Also some CPC games had lame scrolling/bad sprite movement/collision that made them even more annoying and harder.

Pick any shot-em-up. It's impossible to finish without dying from utter boredom.

stress!!
Yep. Actually was there an exit out of the first few screens?

It was too easy to crash (few pixels) controls were terrible :) Now you said it, I think I tried a cheat and never found an exit ;p
Face it: no human being could finish R-type without unlimited credits.

optimus, why don't you code trainers for cpc (or any other system)? would be cool..

in fact, it would be really cool if there were some groups who would focus on training old games, like hokuto force and remember did/do it on c64. there were some plans in phantasy to bring out shitloads of trainers for old gameboy games, but somehow they never got past one trainer...

The MegaMan games for GameBoy are moderately difficult IMHO. Part 2 is rather easy. In some of the parts, the last endbosses may be pretty hard though.

What I found difficult as a child was Gremlins 2 for GameBoy. It's a short game with only 4 levels, but as a child I didn't manage to complete level 3. The endbosses were very difficult.

i've seen one of my friends finish rtype and also ghost'n'goblins, besides lots of other "fun" games like all sorts of japanese nemesis clones

I now remind myself Ghost 'n Goblins on NES, Alien Soldier on Genesis, Elven Warrior, Rastan on C64. Many games on Commie are really hard.
