Polytrans by Okino Computer Graphics can convert between lots of formats. It has a Maya plugin version too. Supposedly it can keep animation data and stuff too, but I've never tried it. It's expensive :)

If you want to export Maya data to a custom format, you might want to look here. This guy has a guide to writing a little Maya exporter, which runs external to Maya, and uses Maya's DLL's.

I should also mention Right Hemisphere's 3D Exploration. Its "Enterprise Edition" can convert between lots of formats.. and includes 3DS Max and Maya, but does not support Maya's animation. The "Discovery Edition" is a browser.. basically like ACDSee for 3D models.

you should take a look at highend3d.com. There are several plugins for maya, and perhaps some good export plugins, that fit your needs.

thanks for info!
knew about Polytrans but program so specific like this, hard to find pirated version.

still, i'm afraid these convertors wont be perfect.. if only everything is corrected after conversion.

oh no, i don't want to look @ ubb-code.. for everything new i learn, something other disappears out of my mind ;)

and i don't want to forget my pouet-password
but I've never tried it. It's expensive :)

lol, since when has anyone here actually paid for the software there running?

well.. if there's some tool that's absolutely free, that's certainly a bonus.

yes, that's an argument.. you buy maya for much money, but you get much free stuff for it for download ;)

or you use povray ;)

any progress on this front for someone? (:

love for the assembler and 8 bits - there is no cure for that you know (:

Then don't use maya. It's probably mainly written in c/c++ and it's not for an 8 bit platform.
