Revision 2020 - April 10th to 13th

category: parties [glöplog]
Quote:
is there anyone worried about the corona virus? will be there any impact in the party? thoughts?

Yes, Maybe, Derp?

Chances a demoparty wil get hit is as high as the mall next door. Mostly worried how it'll affect people in a global trade perspective, really.

Just curious. Any update on the GEMA thing? I remember that PRO-registered authors were not allowed to enter any of the compos, but can't find the info on Revision website anymore...

yeah no, this is the 2017 information, the yeare GEMA was bought off fully. However this was *not* the case in the following years!

Are you sure? The rules from 2018 and 2019 seem to indicate that there was no GEMA ban anymore, and that's how I remember it.
tbh, i'm not 100% sure :D I thought it was bought off by a sponsor specifically for 2017, but maybe not?

I checked in the orgo slack and it’s indeed full GEMA since 2017! So all is good and no more issues! Apologies for the confusion.

Sampling copyrighted material is still not allowed tho.

That's good news. So you say it was a sponsor who bought off the whole GEMA fee?

Btw - I wonder how many of demoscene musicians are registered with performing rights organizations?

Not saying the chances are high, but probably higher than in a mall :) People are meeting from many different locations, and several countries. On top of that, you'll connect with people, shake hands, maybe more :p

My hopes are that the Corona Virus is old news by then, or at least that is well isolated.

It's much more likely that you will get hit by the common flu. Don't sweat it, I'd say.
yawn.
I interpreted "as high as the mall next door" as meaninig the chances are high. Although I was confused about how high malls are typically built.

Anyway this whole thing is ripe for a Space Pigs treatment.

catching norovirus from the Scandinavians is more likely :P

I'm more concerned about the possibly of needing a visa to get into Germany.

The competition rules are online.

Small changes have been made since last year - please check out the "New & Noteworthy" section to get your update.

re: compo rules:

Will the Linux compomachine still run 18.10 (currently unsupported), or will it be updated to 19.10 (latest stable), or is it going to be running 18.04.3 (latest LTS)?

Also, I heard from Las that SDL2 might be available again, will this be the case? (Falling back to GTK should still be fine, though.) (cf. this discussion on IRC etc.)

Is that listed PC compo machine (i7-7700K, NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X Pascal) the acutal one or will it be updated ? Seems a bit dated...

We (Revision orgas) are looking into upgrading it but do not have the resources for buying 2 new high end graphics cards - one for each compo machine. If you are willing to or know someone who is willing to sponsor these - please contact the organizers

It's either stack of cash to be burned on two cards or whip those two coders actually sweating them to optimize the code.

On the other hand - can we start PC demo compo earlier? Waiting until 3am to see THOSE two demos is really exhausting. Especially when you need to drive same day (Monday). What about Amiga Demo > Smoke Break > PC Demo part 1 > 20mins break for hydation of any kind > PC demo part 2 > Whoever's lined up this year gig?

Upgrading the gfx now seems like a bad choice with the next gen already at the doorstep (and promising a huge leap in performance). It would probably make more sense to upgrade before next years Revision.
On the other hand: maybe you can get a good deal on turing based cards now...

The hotel information is now available.

Check our page for details and use the separate booking page to get your rooms.

As usual tip for avid travelers - going through Booking / Expedia / Kayak drives the price of the hotel stay down significantly. Each pfoenig/dmark saved must be spent at the infodesk though :D

Are you coming to Revision by plane? Then register for our airport shuttles and travel with your friends :)

Also, if you arrive a day or two earlier and are part of a larger group - get in touch, we might be able to help you there, too.

Going back 9 days and considering the chance/opportunity to try Corona virus: It's more likely that you will get as high as the mall next door.

I'm scheduled to fly in from the USA, and with Germany quarantining ~1000 people thus far, I'm starting to get concerned. Have the orgas looked into what happens if:

- Germany bans large public meeting spaces, like Switzerland just did today?
- Travel in/out of Germany is stopped? (already travelers from Italy, South Korea, Japan and Iran need to disclose their health status upon arrival)

A response from the orgas would be helpful.

I know that a pandemic is nobody's fault, so I'm willing to let the orgas keep my Revision ticket even if they have to cancel Revision, just to cover their non-refundable costs.
