Do all chiptune composers be Visual mathematicians?

People rarely trust my instinct and never turn to me for direction - Especially not in the workplace...
Sounds like horoscope...

I like classical IQ tests even though it seems that I flunked on this one.
Why? For one thing, because they are TOTALLY UNFAIR to normal people.

The vast majority of the questions there are in the form of geometric and logic puzzles. This is because of a couple of reasons. First, the aim is to test intelligence rather than knowledge and second, it's to avoid biasing the test toward any specific group of people. Providing examples that show familiarity with real-life things would favor obviously people with experience of those particular things, so the tests tend to give you some abstract figures with rotating arrows and alternating more or less dutch fillcolors and so on and then let you find some sort of a rule in it.

The problem is that I am a coder. Programming is what I do for living and have done as a hobby since I turned eight or so. What it is is essentially abstract problem solving, looking for patterns, drinking beer and generalising stuff. So speaking about patterns, are you seeing one already? To help you out, I'll just tell that I've literally spent a largish fraction of my life thinking about stuff very similar to what these tests look like. Thus, it's natural that I've become very good in them.

And how good is good? Well, a typical score on a test whose scale extends far enough is something like 175. Nothing special, as I'm also relatively sure that e.g. keops and kb would score quite similarly. Or is it? If throwing a number like that out of the hat doesn't tell much, it is supposed to be five standard deviations away from the average Joe. (cool, another number..)

It doesn't make sense. It's one thing to be smart and another to be within 0.00003%. What is the likelyhood that a scene of some few thousand people would have the most intelligent people from several countries? Well, it isn't 1.0 for sure.

Conclusions:

1. There's something fishy about what these tests are and what they claim to be.
2. Being good in puzzles means one thing above anything else. That you're good in puzzles.
3. I'm an egomaniac attention whore and felt like bragging with my supposedly high IQ. The critical tone is just hypocrisy.

C'mon, that's just fun...

216: Maybe you should do the test at which I scored IQ 145 (99.75th percentile): It's a test designed for the high IQ range. I got this score despite solving only about 2/3 of the tasks, so there's plenty of space left. Unfortunately I don't know the name of the test; I did it with a psychologist; it contained only logical tasks, was divided in 4 or 5 sections with about 8 - 11 tasks each, and one of these sections was just like a Raven test (a hard one though). Some of the tasks also resemble the tasks 9 - 26 from the test MadenMann posted (http://81.169.179.189/index.php?id=65) very much. Maybe somebody knows the name of this test?

BTW, my guess is that the maximum IQ score possible at Tickle is 140.

AHAHAH Adok you're such a pompous prick, I can't believe it.

I thought that people who were REALLY smart used not to brag about it and did not shoot themselves in public toilets. Obviously I was wrong...

I'm sure that IQ 140 is the maximum you can get on that test.

Stop this fucking IQ shit already. I guarantee you people who are genuinely intelligent don't give a FUCK about IQ. Being over concerned about your own intelligence is really, really sad. IQ tests are roughly on par with self-congratulatory mensa bollocks and similar constructs designed to make people with otherwise empty lives feel that their life is not the utter void of pointlessness that it most probably is given that they voluntarily devote their time to such activities. These things are a total waste of time.

pdx: Of course writing articles for Hugi would be a much more sensible way to spend time!

Adok: Indeed it would, doing almost ANYTHING would be a more sensible way to spend time. The waste of time isn't the worst thing though - it's the disgusting culture surrounding these tests.

Adok: hurry up! go and update your "About me" page. It's still written that you scored IQ 136 on Tickle.
