Desperately seeking a Vectrex for TRSAC

category: general [glöplog]
I can't fly my Vectrex to TRSAC, but I want to deliver a prod. Could any kind Vectrex owner (or friend of Vectrex owner) who might be driving to TRSAC hook a bruddah up?

I'd hoped to not be this public about release plans but this is what it's come to!

Holy shit - what kind of output does it deliver? (As in: can we even play it live on the bigscreen, or will we have to record it :) )

Puryx, video is the only option for bigscreen but I'd much prefer to at least be able to leave the hardware looping the prod after the compo for people to see it properly, rather than just bring a video to the party. No form of video can quite capture the vector magic.. Essentially my aim is to be in Oldschool rather than Wild and I don't wanna just bring a video!!

PS Playing it live on bigscreen via a camera with the hardware sat on stage (built in monitor), while risky from a performance/orga point of view, would be my ultimate nirvana, but I would never ask of the beam team

Ok fair enough - that's easier for us, but also means that we _can_ show it without the HW present, even though that of course makes it like one billion times more cool :)

usually compos opt for emulator fullscreen cap rather than cammed video but of course having real hw for proof is a def plus!

With hardware as unusual as vectrex, I'd go for a camera recording over emulation tbh. It'll need some care to record well though (hit me up if you need any advice on setting this up Fell :)

I never fucking even heard of Vectrex. Wasn't aware that you were such an old fart Fell ;)

That's exactly why I wanna have hardware at the party! You just can't get a proper idea of this amazing and unique machine on a vid.

As an experiment I wrapped mine in a LOT of bubblewrap, but still didn't feel it would handle a drop from a couple of feet, so checked luggage really isn't doable, and it won't fit in carry-on. Meep!!

I am indeed serious, and regarding the "something different".. It's up to me to know and for you to find out innit?

Hmm sounds like I should try and pack an extra controller!

To be clear, the Vectrex is not mine. It's been lent to me to use over the TRSAC weekend only. If you want to greet someone, greet CharlieK who is the generous owner. Also, I haven't started it yet, but I'm told everything was ok four months ago. I'll try it some time this week and post a teaser here. :)

Hmm... i thought i'd seen a vectrex back in the day, but it wasn't like that! It was a similar thing, with a min TV/oscilloscope type display and vector gfx, but it had a built in controller (and possibly just 1 built-in game). So what the hell was that? :D

(Huh, macOS auto-corrects "vector gfx" to "vector god". Appropriate.)
