Who are the oldest active demo sceners?

category: general [glöplog]
Vague question, agree.

Actually a more interesting question might be how young the youngest demoscener is?

Can't be anyone under 30, surely!? :) But never fear, our kids are growing up and we'll indoctrinate them to carry the tradition, just like the Christians and Muslims !! ;)

Oldest?
BigBopper of Kevlers, no doubt! He's in his 60's now.

There are many sceners under 30.

Related question: What is the longest continual period of activity for a demoscener? Personally, I have released something on a demoparty every year since 1995. Anyone higher? :)

Blueberry: do entries that didn't qualify to the compos count? In that case every year since '94 :)

Britelite: I would say they do. Preseletion does not cancel the activity itself.

You were indeed the first (and so far only) person I thought of who might have been active longer. No surprise there. :)

Thats indeed a badass streak of you both.
I released stuff from 1991-1998 on Amiga. Ten years of nothing. 2008-today on PC.
Dude, poo-brain is barely in their twenties!

Graham is also a good candidate for the longest active:

Streak since 1990 starting as Mad (from 1992 as Graham)

My recollection is vague and I can't be bothered to go look it up but wasn't there a guy who was part of the Quite crew or something who released some shader stuff and he is 14 years old?

drift: Perhaps you're thinking of Forth Shader Collection by SandS...?

(Also in the "next generation sceners" department, I think Evoke 2015 - nippespänz must be a contender for youngest :-) )

I think my latest contributions were around 2013 in some of Corials recent Focus Design demos.
My first official demo releases were late 1989 / early 1990 when I was 18 years old.
I began making (lame) C64 intros around 1986 but they were only spread locally, so they don't count really...
Now I'm 45 years old.. but not active on scene anymore (except of posting to this thread ;) )

What started in 2006 is still going on in 2016. The demoscene portal BitFellas is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Born out of the hands of our Bitfather Alien we spread the word of the scene with the latest news, images (ArtCity), music (BitJam & podcast), articles (.deMOSZENE) or projects like BitWorld.

As a first taste of our celebration year we released Teleonesis at Revision 2016, a wild demo based on the ideas and video material made by a 7 year old boy with a selfmade kaleidoscope and his digicam, featuring awesome music by Absolute Valentine.

Stay tuned for more birthday stuff released later this year! We LOVE the demoscene!
I think the Article about it is only available in german :/ but it´s a superb read for sure!
The Making of Teleonesis
I am now 44 and joined the Amiga demo scene only a very short time ago.

I am active mainly in the sense that I like coding / realeasing for the community. Unfortunately I don' t partecipate to parties, travelling is very expensive.

At the age of 7 u dont decide to be active in the demoscene, other grown ups decide that for u.

By those wierd definitions i can tell u my cat is part of the demoscene because she featured in some amiga demo.

I started coding at age of 5 on c64 in basic. And i did it because i wanted to do the same stuff as i saw in front of my games -> cracktros (not the cracking but the intros/effects). So did i decide to get active in the demoscene or what? I get your concern, tho...ofc it took me until i got 13 to finally really enter the scene by joining a real group etc. (you dont get too far with basic only on c64!)
i did my first demoscene graphics when i was 1, in a diaper. it was a wild entry too =)

I got curious about Blueberry's question, so I did a bit of data mining on the Demozoo database to answer almost but not quite the same thing. Here are all the people who have released something in 20 or more distinct (but not necessarily consecutive) years, either as an individual release or credited on a group production. Don't take this data as 100% reliable, of course - some platforms have better data coverage on Demozoo than others...
