Bound by Plastic

category: general [glöplog]
Hi,

It's been a long time, and finally I should move my ass to some other demoparties than polish ones ( I was grounded with a small kid ). Meanwhile I was still in my thoughts with the scene, so I decided that we should go back to the roots!

Presenting Bound (http://bound-ga.me) - our latest Plastic production. Done mostly with love to code, inspired by older and never releases.

The idea for the art style was growing in my head for more than 10 years.

Yep:

If you look closer to some of the footage here:

Then you will notice a sea of cubes, taken from this one:

Probably, there might be some Debris inspiration as well, but that might by my subconscience.

The music is electroacoustic, raw and nice synthesis at some points.

You can check Heinali's soundcloud for references http://soundcloud.com/heinali

Last, and most important from demoscene perspective - PS4, running at 60Hz 1080P with MSAA (forward rendering). Like during Amiga times :).

You can punch me between eyes for posting games related stuff here, at the next party :). I can answer questions here if you have them, I also post Bound related stuff here:

Still hoping to do a real demo for a compo sometime in the future :(.

Very cool concept and I love the visuals and demoish effects. I hope this is a great success for you.

Anything made by a demoscener involving dancers *has* to be a reference to That TBL Demo With A Ballet Dancer In It. Of course. It's not like dance is a whole art form with genres and sub-genres of its own or anything...

"I see you made a game about driving fast cars. Some inspiration from that Fairlight demo with the sports car in it, perhaps?"

Dancers are patented to TBL and Plastic paid a huge undisclosed sum to TBL for being able to use one in their product!
that's indeed annoying when you get such comments on your work. it shows how naive certain sceners are.
Everyone is just ripping off ancient greek mathematicians with their 3d geometry and vector space. Super lame, be more original guys.

Maali: come on, they are mostly kidding (I hope). To give a little background - there are many versions of so called ribbon gymnastics or ribbon dance. First, there is Olympic version with one ribbon and a stick, but there is also an Asian version (Chinese ribbon, red ribbon, silk ribbon dance) that is closest to this one from Bound and TBL. So, surprise, surprise, TBL did not invent it ;-)
On the other hand I guess TBL was the first to show that ribbon dance looks cool in a demo/realtime cg setting (with alpha blending etc..), so surely they deserve a little recognition here.

Bonzaj: congrats on finishing such an ambitious project! Looks impressive.

no, in their line of thinking, it is like saying 'hey, Rembrandt painted portraits too!' to every portrait they see hanging in a museum.
but let's not hijack bonzaj's nice project for a discussion about stupidity! ;)
I must say, that I forgot about Ocean Machine, when we were doing the ballerina character.
But I remember the compo when TBL won with It. I though that some people would jump from the tribune and sacrifice themself :).

And the project is not finished yet. We are now entering the hardcore polishing phase.

I mean, they are good demos. But they are not _that_ good.

You need to look at it from the perspective of time & place & probably booze too ;)

Well, at least you're not selling a demo this time :)

Interesting, looking forward to seeing it done. Looks a bit rough around the edges so far, but fixing that's what the "hardcore polishing phase" is for ;)

Hello everyone! We have finished this beast :).

If you would like to walk/run/dance through our demoscenish landscape, here are some codes for you:

Europe:

If you redeem the code, please throw us some comments/rants PHOTOMODE shots here on pouet. We will appreciate that.

Also - if you will find a secretly hidden logo of a group that everyone knows and loves then I'll throw some more codes :).

It's not a game in a strict sense. it's much an interactive narrative set in a demoscene inspired world.

The good thing about it is that people are throwing at us a ton of great photos:
