Studio pics thread

category: music [glöplog]
We need this thread here. Everyone likes to show off right?

Since I'm just about to pack all this shit up and ship it off to north america, I thought I'd take a last few pics before I start putting it all away:

^^ Analog side - where the acid happens. :)

BB Image
^^ Digital side. The big industrial server is a P233MMX and runs every DOS tracker imaginable (but usually IT.) It is my primary 'DAW'. I still use floppies and zip disks all the time.

I have a few more synths and effects kicking around but this is what I use for 99.5% of my composing. Yeah there are some problems (I *really* needed some diffusers but never got around to it), but I've had a really good run with this setup, probably one of my most productive in forever. Hopefully I can get a new space going that's as nice where I end up.

So let's see where you guys sit down to do your music/pixelling/code/art/whatever... post it up!

I don't need yo' fancy ass gadgets (I would like some though please)

Seriously though I also need a better desk and speaker stands, and acoustic proofing in general.

Out of curiousity, what's the best thing to mount a monitor speaker on that's not a purpose-built stand?

Bricks (or anything high-density and heavy) with Auralex (or a substitute) under the monitors.
The goal is to have as few vibrations from the speakers going into the desk/floor as possible.

or jelly pudding!
I have mixer, reverb, compressor, analog synths, acoustic guitar (used to have a juice harp as well) good mikes etc, and there used to be a drum machine next to the monitor but for most things I only use a MIDI keyboard, good monitors on audio mats on custom stands at the recommended distance and angle, and the music software of choice.

I did take care of the room acoustics by fixing the corners, installing a studio ceiling and putting (not so) useless sofas around :)

sold all hardware synths (except for the microstation which is not worth the hassle) to focus more on what is essential:

@Gargaj: I use similar wooden boxes on their sides, with the opening facing me (and thus creating usable space under the speakers). Might not be the best solution in terms of vibrations, though, but works for me nevertheless.

I use woodblocks with rubber feet, but you can also use half cut tennis balls or such.. :)

My messy "setup"

BB Image

Synths:
Novation Supernova Rack.
Studio Electronics ATC-1.
Microkorg (w/ broken keyboard).

What you don't see:
Nebulophone
Kawai k1m.

Not mine: Nord Rack 2x, lent by a good friend.

Gears:
MOTU Ultralite mk3.
MOTU microlite (MIDI box).
Rokit RP5 (what I don't make music with anylonger…)
Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro (what I make music with…)
Berinhger Patchbay (girlfriend is happy not see cables running everywhere)

This is pretty cool, I don't really need any VSTis… and if I do need something else, I have a license of Reaktor. What I need is time…
