Outline 2014 - May 29th to June 1st

category: parties [glöplog]
Yes, except we could've taken care of that bullshit ages before it finally subsided and would've known who to bar from having a drink too many the next time.

Your lack of pants, of course, would have been the least of our concerns :)

Appropriate?... whatever: PANTS OFF!

Also, it would be a nice idea to advise all people that the sleeping rooms (and the surrounding areas) are the silence zone and this rule must be adhered to.

Anyway, thanks for this great party, it was my second Outline and I really want to attend it next year (circumstances prevailing).

I do agree that the real party is outside, I'm still sore after playing frisbee (I'm not complaining though :D )

Orgas were extremely nice and helpful (so were any other people I spoke to), beer was good and cheap, I loved the free tea and a coffee.

But the whole idea of the party is to watch and listen to some cool stuff and I'm not disappointed.

Once again, thanks for all the effort you've put into making this event a successful one, well done!

Very much ashamed to admit that I was part of these inconsiderate morons. There's really no excuse for bullshit like that in the sleeping area. I don't know why we thought that would be a good idea and I'm really sorry for anyone who lost sleep because of it. The demoscene is the last place on earth where we want to piss people off like that, it won't happen again.
Outline 2014 was great as usual, and the weather made it to be the party it is supposed to be. Chilling in the sun on Saturday and playing frisbee with a couple of sceners outside was great fun, among other things!

Regarding the location problems, it's really sad to hear as the location was most definitely very awesome, but it was also really full this year so maybe a new location will actually help dealing with the growth of the party.

Thanks to everyone who was there, and everyone who helped organizing this great party, the food, and everything. It was a great experience (apart from the PC demo compo, but that has already been brought up)! Props to Shifter for bringing along that modular synth kit and keeping us musicians constantly busy with it. :)
Oh, also, if you're one of the unfortunate people like me who didn't manage to secure an awesome party shirt in time, havoc stated that they might order some reprints if enough people show interest, so post here if you want an(other) awesome Outline shirt!
Outline was like a relaxing short holiday with friends =)

Food was also proper, especially the curry with the funny herbs on top and the rosmarin potatoes aside.
Would have liked more great DJing while waiting at the hapkar (can we have that at easterpardy? ;D), or earlier meal serving times - the delays affecting the late evening action would have been less then.

I also liked that all orgas despite being completely busy still kept being pretty easygoing even during their shifts =)

I was also surprised about the number of quality entries (especially the atari aircraft game) released on a party which is mainly known for socialising rather than releasing :)

That herb was fresh coriander and the Bombay Aloo was spiced with fried cumin :)

Sorry about being late with the curry, but we really wanted to make sure the stuff was done proper (chicken especially) -hence the delay in food waves from 20:00 to 20:45.

The curry was worth the wait. Probably the best curry I've had in a very long time!

I really loved Outline this year. So many awesome people, great fun, music, beer, atmosphere etc. Sad that a change of venue will happen and I hope Outline 2015 can happen but I'll do my best to attend more partays. Already been influenced to make a compo entry or two!
Currently uploading releases to scene.org's incoming dir, will take a few hours.

It is wry to close off Outline 2014 without the usual "see you next ascension weekend at this place!" and have "we'll see where the next one is" instead.

When I started at Outline 2006, it was a place with 40-odd guests. This year, we had 148 guests that the registration system knew of. It was pretty clear that the place was packed from the very start and that this probably meant a change of plans for next year. Pity it had to come to this and I still haven't heard the full skinny of of the arguments to sever the contract with W'tjewel, but I think that our modest little party got too big for its breeches.

I feel the urge to post a motivational - but I'll refrain from doing so.

Attention, if you already linked to scene.org, make sure that your link is still working. I forgot to rename directories earlier.
Sorry for that, I'm gonna update links on pouet right now!

The good stuff:

+Atmosphere

+DJ sets outdoors helped the day feel slow and relaxing in the good weather.

++The projector was amazing

++The screen was flatter than ever before, ever. Excellent.

+Free Coffee (thanks Dfox & Madame), even though I can't drink stimulants myself, people were glad of this stuff.

+PartyMeister success (Thanks Dfox)

+WIFI Stood up to the demand. 97/110max devices at one point across the new WIFI mesh, improvement from the falling over APs with just 29 devices.

+Totally not guaranteed Internet connectivity (additional thanks to cgi)

+Fridges worked well indeed. Cold beers all around for the most part.

++ Curry/food was excellently done, and demand/supply seems to have matched very well. Honkey+Shifter and the other helping hands that helped get the food plated, as well as handed out - really appreciated. Well done guys.

+ Bar staff did excellent.

+ General food selection and quality was excellent

+Outwine wine tasting was fun and silly. Kudos to all who participated.

+Compo entries were awesome

+Nobody stole any of my many widely deployed cables.

+The GAMMA gaffer tape didn't leave residue.

+The cardboard floor cable tidy/cover was brilliant. It kept duct tape residue off the wires, and it kept the floor clean and the visitors safe from tripping.

+Window covers = darkness. The blanket things used worked better than anything we ever had before.

+Just about enough power distribution, thank you for getting the extra power blocks at the last minute. People really REALLY appreciated having the power these provided.

+No power cuts! (except the one on Thursday caused by the iron plugged into the same system as the beamer, chest fridge and server, lol). People kept away from the taped-over wall sockets. This helped DRASTICALLY, so thank you guys (visitors) for complying with our requests to use only the main distribution. The hapcar was also plugged into the party hall distribution which meant happy happy hapcar.

+Hapcar noms.

+Great weather!

Things which weren't so good:

-- BBQ food was dangerously under-cooked. Next time, please take an electronic temperature probe while dealing with chicken and pork. I bit into uncooked pork, had to put it back on the BBQ but by the time I got it back it was a dried out piece of shit.

--Prize Giving ceremony beam-slides were totally unreadable with the table on the stage. Lets go back to using a read-out list and using the beam-screen for spotlight shenanigans next time :)

--No public thanks/mentions to any organisers for helping out. This kinda sucked hard for everyone who had put so much effort in. This is not my opinion, but sentiment shared by quite a few. It also strayed far from the tradition. We know it was to do with the audio system but honestly at that point, anyone could have shouted louder than the PA at that point (hehe, in fact they did). I guess it just wanted to be over and done with as soon as possible.

--I share the same sentiments as d-fox regarding the last final compo of the party. It was a shitty call to swap the compo for performance. Period. On facebook we were made aware this decision wasn't taken lightly, but eh? Sitting in the front row of desks I could barely hear the demos, or the spoken words from the prize giving. It was infuriating. I have probably a great audio track of people quietly talking on the live footage instead of demo soundtrack to illustrate this situation.

-People taking lots of the glow sticks I chucked out outside during the dance floor activity and throwing them high into the trees. Please guys putting them up high in the trees is a really stupid idea because someone has to fetch them down, they were up so high nobody could reach them. :P

- Organisers need better orga-comms proceeding and during the party for smoother operations. I've no idea why they/we didn't get called together in the kitchen at any point during the party for this considering the smaller crew meant much more gaps in responsibility to fill.

- I share the opinion with a few others that there were perhaps too many live performances, this is still a demo party, right? We had this complaint last year as well (see Joosts 2013 summary email), I'm glad we had a cancellation because nobody noticed the cancellation and we were better off with having the audio downtime in the hall for a while. It would be good not to rely on serendipity in the future. (hehe). :)

Outline was overall very very good. Thank you to all who helped make it work, who helped make it a great party and to all who contributed productions. The future isn't clear due to the loss of the venue for 2015, but whatever it turns out to be it will still be Outline.

that was me. but the glow stick were also mine and not from your stash. i got them as a birthday gift and decided that i always wanted to know what 50 connected glowsticks in a tree look like. i also removed the glowsticks the next morning.

btw, 50 glow sticks look cool but it's not worth the effort. next time i will try something else with the glow sticks. :)

@xxx ah, I also saw folks gathering them up from the dance floor and going outside with them in some big chains. I just saw them up really really high in the trees (like, really high). My bad, I assumed.

200 sticks doesn't seem to be enough. 1000 next time? :D (hue hue hue, lots of hues)

How about none? Some fucker decided my tent was the perfect place to offload sticks in, next and over -right after they got as far as the middle of the field. It was totally awesome to pick strays from the field after the guests packed up in the morning.
