So, who is in charge of slengpung.com nowadays?

category: general [glöplog]
The short of it being that I explicitly told Slengpung to not tag me post-BP2007, tolerated a few TUM2007 shots and hoped we'd keep it at that.

Whoopsie! Turns out I'm all over slengpung ever since -framesets and all. I'm not happy. Those are not the terms I left Slengpung over.

I'd love to know who to talk to k thx.

There is no such thing as a global "don't tag this person plz" thing on Slengpung. None of the people adding pictures with you (or people kindly providing missing ???s on pictures) have probably known that apart from the administrator you've talked to.
Besides, what's the reasoning behind this? You don't want sceners to recognize you (and me going "I know this dude but I have no idea what his handle is" again)? Mind you, Slengpung cannot be indexed by any of the well-known search engines since they all adhere to robots.txt
Back off, son. I happened to be part of that chime you're echoing. I used to be an admin for slengpung. Ask around if you have you -not judging and all :)

I have no problem with people seeing me on photos, but I've made me myself perfectly clear about tagging me. Omit me and I'm happy. Settle the fuck down k thx.

I take it back -please come to Outline 2014 for curry and reprogramming. You need it.

I think you're the one who needs to settle down... ;) I'm just saying that there is no way to prevent this from happening right now, so you probably not made yourself clear enough to the admin in charge back then (Gargaj probably) that there maybe needs to be a technical way to prevent this from happening.

The reason I resigned? Nice going there.

So, again: who is in charge? You're obviously not the person to talk to :) ;) ;D

Guys, seriously.

Things like this shouldn't be discussed at 4am, I suggest we all get some rest.

No reason to bring up impact.ttf. Also, it's not 4am here.

Shifter, we got your message, it's being worked on - please give us some time, as we don't have automated tools to do this quickly.
Take care, sleep well <3

You didn't get any message and whatever system you talk about simply doesn't exist.

In Germany he actually had a case, because here you are not allowed to publish photographs of people in the public without their explicit approval. Without it you either cannot publish the photo at all, or you have to alter the photo, so the person is not in any way recognizable anymore.

"What is this guy hiding", had to search for Shifter on Slengpung.
salinga: partly true, depends on the actual intend of the shot. if he is just one guy in a larger crowd it's ok, if he is the prime motive it's not iirc. better ask netpoet ;)

i can partly understand that ppl don't want to be tagged on slengpung. though the robots.txt is obeyed to, there still is this feeling: well, maybe not and the results simply don't show up. and with similarity search of images and employers checking social networks before hiring and stuff like that, there should be a way to explicitly remove tags, and/or marking ppl as not taggable. anyway, the way shifter expressed this is aggressive. even if ppl take care of the issue he is like "wahh wahh wahhh". dunno, either he wants that information for a lawsuit or it's the time of the month for him...

i'm heavily against being tagged in photos in general. You only need to consider that facial recognition is common now and will be standard in the near future, and that a work-related photo of you and a photo of you wasted on slengpung are easily linked. Suddenly connections between bits of your life you don't want connecting start appearing. Like connections between that 'scheissewurst' prod you coded while drunk in the 90s and your current employer.

Maybe in this case slengpung really never gets indexed, and the search engines (and whoever else is doing this kind of crawling) are totally trustable. But it's better to just not have the information there in the first place :)

psonice: regarding facial recognition and linking: tagging is not even necessary. it just makes it easier to link your face to a handle which you can in turn use for a deeper search. would be enough if someone said: "ha, look at this pic. isn't it the one software developer? ha, insane amount of puke and why is it all lilac?" prolly ppl won't find you by your handle on slengpung if they don't know it beforehand.

skomp: I'm thinking of the other way round.. you have your name, company details and face on some business site somewhere. Your face links you to say slengpung. The photo is tagged, so your face is also linked to your scene handle, and your scene handle is now linked to you too. Then everything you've ever posted here gets linked.

I guess my main issue with it is that it can all be done automatically. When you consider all the info about your life that exists online, and how it can be linked, it's not at all difficult to build a very deep profile of a person up, completely automatically. "You work here doing this, this is your family, these are your friends, this is what you do in your spare time, this weekend your house is empty because you live alone and you're registered for this party in another country".

check. solution: make slengpung a closed site? i.e. log in to see content?
added on the 2013-08-28 11:30:52 by skomp skomp
Dunno, i think it's valuable to keep it open, it's great to send people a link so they can see what a party is like. Log in to see comments would keep identities non-public perhaps.

shifter, why are you going public with this instead of, for example, talking to me? i'm not "in charge", but as you well know, i have admin access and could have fixed everything for you without such a fuss being made here. i very well remember your request back then, and always have followed it in my picture additions.
