category: offtopic [glöplog]
Well done sir!

So many prods I forgot to thumbed up or simply missed somehow.

Ho and also can you add a "GET" parameter for user id? so I can bookmark the link with the right id (like http://metapouet.net?id=10) and doesn't have to type it each time.
And perhaps something like "autosubmit" parameters? so I don't have to press the submit button? :3

@mog: Yeah that's a workaround, but it's not a very good one if the user needs to spend possibly hours making comments on prods just to get an actual suggestion ;). Not easily solvable problem though. Possibly an option to mark a prod as "seen" and get a new one in its place or at the end of the list?

interesting... it mostly returns prods i dont like anyway :D

Maali: have you tried to filter by thumb-down-buddies ?

noby, you missed to read the description. It operates as a framework on pouet. The purpose is not to make it complicated and maintain a dedicated database.

Well, it could still store the "seen" data in a cookie. Not exactly a pretty solution, but...

skomp: I know, that's why I said it's problematic. I wouldn't necessarily for that reason need to store anything anywhere; just have a 'hide' button there that would be remembered as long as the page isn't reloaded. Or, possibly what Tomoya suggested.

Found so many great demos I never voted for ... thanks mog for this tool.

tomoya: yeah, ugly ;) the real solution is to comment. it shouldn't be be encouraged not to vote i guess.

or rather comment...

what people are trying to say: COMMENT THE FUCK!

p01: tried both with quite similar results

Most of the comments are just "forgot to vote!" or even empty though... I don't like to start mass-commenting on prods I don't really have much to say about. In my opinion if it's supposed to suggest me new prods to watch then the implementation from usability pov fails a bit.

But as said, still a great little "tool".

you just don't meet the requirements. same with maali, if you don't thumb up enough prods you like the tool will fail ofc...

@skomp: Jupp, saw DSM invitation, feels weird - will be fixed :)

@noby: No idea why you just not do what g. does for instance, just oink the prod - mark it as watched, and leave the option to rate it later :)
However the idea for a thumb buddy threshold might be an idea to find actual gems, though I need to refactor the code in prior.

@rez: Very good idea with the URL parameter, will do that - the sorting as well.

@maali: It's just a shoe that won't fit everybody, however I know that feel from last.fm. I actually put some more thought about it and read into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix_Prize months ago - but it felt like overengineering the whole thing with too less data at hand. The only other approach I had in mind is using tags for mood, style and so on - similar to what jinni does for movies - the problem is we don't have such tags (ignoring the BiTS ones for effects). Demozoo won't help either, as it's a fuckton of prods that are not tagged at all, same with pouet that has plenty of demos not commented on at all.

Also thanks to you all who said it's useful, I saw some of you commenting today like being on fire - like moqui - fills my tiny heart with joy :)

After implementing your suggestions, I'll try to make it faster - currently for me it takes 15 seconds to spit out results - way too long!

May I suggest a prod-type filter too? It'd be nice to be able to go on a 64k commenting-spree or 4k spree ;)

+1 on the prod type filter/indication

Btw, the layout of the prod is really nice.

Can we have a metapouet button on pouet, pretty please!

I suppose p01/mog could easily write a userscript for that :)

This is already really useful and looks great. Thumbs up for that! Stuff like this is vital and feels like a missing feature to pouet already. It's a massive incentive to finally comment on the known-but-never-commented demos and then get more recommendations in return. This can only be seen as a community benefit.

Thus, ideally, I would like to see it integrated into pouet itself. Then I could have it store my preferred options, and maybe cache the list to minimize the load on the server. For sofa-scening with my tablet, it would be nice if there was a direct Youtube/etc link.

And it would also be nice to look for stuff that others dislike.

thanks for this, entertained me through a night of insomnia.
Thank you mog! <3

Great script! But...

I could really use a filter to "forget/remove/disable" a prod I do not wish to vote for or myself have been a part of.

Great stuff! Is it possible to have more choice in the select menu (like the less commented prods or so....)
