That is not quite right. I meant/said that we cannot know the rules of every countrys "gema" so we have to forbid everything. Since in the past it has shown that GEMA does not know the rules of everyone else either and tries to make us pay anyhow. The corresponding correspondence is a lot of work for us and for the artist and we prefer to not have one month of evoke-afterparty writing letters to whatever copyright collective whoever is a member of.

So the reason for including "all members of BIEM" in the whole process is that we simply do not know how things are handled. Neither does GEMA. It might even be, that if you are member in finnishGEMA and your music is played in germany, you have to play by GEMA-rules regardless of what finnishGEMA permits you to do...again, I do not know what is the case. I am not a lawyer, neither are most of the evoke orga team. We do not want to deal with this...sorry.

we had to "try" this two years ago. it is a mess. it didnt go to court, and iirc we didnt pay. but is was a lot of unneccessary, uncreative and boring work for poor poti.

we have no way, short of asking for your passport (which we will not do), to actually verify the given realname. that said, releasing as "dieter bohlen" for shits and giggles is not funny to us...releasing your music under a wrong name is somehow breach of some law/contract i bet though. so if it ever comes through (you put that track on your website which has your real- realname or smth. like that) i guess there would be consequences. guess...

and before any people get funny ideas. please know that the persons you are fucking over are the party-organizers...not gema. so releasing as "dieter bohlen" because of "stickittothemanfuckthepolicefuckgema" is causing THE ORGANIZERS a lot of trouble...gema handles this in their daily business...they do not care AT ALL.

So, maybe this is the signal for people who will never make anything of their music career anyway to leave such silly organizations behind and be free to do whatever they please with their music :)

And for those who do get paid for their gigs but who value their creativity higher than a said amount of cash, but stil lower than let's say uuh,. n times their monthly income or so, this whole story is food for thoughts.

A quick GEMA-free message: if anybody coming to Revision happen to have an 8 inch floppy drive lying around gathering dust I'd be happy to exchange it for some other hardware/money/beer. Who'd have thought that unarchived 30 year-old data would turn up to be useful after all? :/

I have one but certainly wont give it away.... i might be able to transfer a disk or two however :)

So, some other news for a change:

Revision is cooperating with the experimental media lab (xm:lab) within the Academy of Fine Arts Saar (HBKsaar) and calls out to all demosceners to submit their artwork for the media facade, a large backprojection screen, covering the entire glass facade of the academy’s gallery building.

So, groups or single artists - please have a look at this out-of-the-ordinary competition and submit new or converted productions.

The winners will be chosen by a jury and presented during a short show during Revision.

The three best submissions will be played every night for many months on the media facade in Saarbrücken and the best one will receive a nice trophy and and invitation to the academy to hold a workshop, do a talk or something similar.

So - for more information - check out the competition page and create something a little different from the usual Demoscene production.
