scene music stolen

category: music [glöplog]
I have now gotten a .hk email address for the label that represents the albums. I've written the address but since it is a .hk address I'm not really expecting much feedback.

Believe digital are VERY reluctant to discuss anything regarding sales - even to let me now how many times the albums were sold.

Let's see where it goes...

On the plus side, if Believe Digital are trying to avoid responsibility and breaking off all ties with the artist/label, it means they're unlikely to put up much of an opposition if you fire off a DMCA takedown notice to Emusic/iTunes etc (if indeed you haven't done that already).

They have told me that the album should be gone from various stores within the next 3 weeks.
Which is basically fine.

However they seemingly accepted that the bogus record company terminated the contract, and that sales figures and compensation is on their "we don't answer that"-list

What's up with Germans, expecting everyone to know their language.

Tomoya: I think the joke is that the comment is made by Laxical :D

I don't think that's how it works but perhaps Netpoet can chime in more competently; it would seem really bizarre that they could abscond from responsibility.

Well, I think it's close to settled now actually.

Obviously the sales figures are VERY low. The Hong Kong company is a company that took over the company that originally aggreated and distributed the music and ran it until end of 2012, since the original compnay was closed in 2012 (Believe digital has since then taken over the rights for the catalogue from the begining of 2013).

The .hk company did supply me with an answer and sales figures.

Believe Digital are removing the albums from the stores.

Bottom line: in this case, it did matter to take action.

Puryx: Excellent! In matter of compensation I think you need to go for the responsibles of the recordcompany, not the aggregator(s)...

Response: I think that the record company is run by Laxical himself - or someone close.
The aggregators have not been able to get in contact with him for a while (big surprise)
I think it'll be rather difficult if not impossible to do more at this stage.

So what does this have to do with GEMA again?
magic, get a clue ffs. apparently you know shit about the GEMA and their dispute with YT. besides, noone was talking about the GEMA concerning the matter at hand.

unicycle as opposed to bicycle means that only half of it got stolen back then?

saga: nothing. It's just yet another desperate (and futile) attempt by Magic to even stay remotely relevant.

I just deleted my whole S-Wave folder. I used to like this guy.

Note to self: Consider releasing stuff under the name "/lib", then make people like you, then not anymore.

Small input: I have had a lot of contact with Belive (Belive Digital) through various projects over the years, especially back in 2007/08 when they started. They are probably the worst bunch of cunts ever. Especially the two founders. A big part of their buisness model is based on scams so it is pretty obvious that they don't want to share their stats with you.

Just as a followup for this other case, I have gotten in contact with the dude and he comes across as genuinely sorry about that mess and assured me he went into it with the best of intentions (which I guess is fair to believe given he at least tried to give credit to the productions involved).

Juvenile: They (Believe digital) took over the rights from someone else in the beginning of 2013, so they have only been distributing the albums this year.
I got the stats from the company that bought the remains of the original aggregator, and not surprizingly the albums didn't really sell.
Still it took some mails until I actually got the contact to the ones that could supply me with the original stats - not helpful, and not a good sign - and you stating this, just underlines that Believe digital might not be the best place to put your stuff.

i knew laxical from many conversations in the past. he seemed like a nice guy, but he had some flaky stories every now and then, and was a real sucker for attention. it makes more sense now. but i feel a bit disappointed.
