10th Annual Scene.org Awards - Public Choice voting

category: general [glöplog]
I think next year we should have a "Most bitter scener" category :-)

All this fuzz has pretty much obliterated any honorary value that the award had to begin with :)

I'd love more scenedrama but this topic seems completly used up. Reed go at it again?

isn't the purpose of scene awards to honor those productions that don't get valued at parties? doing public choice as party voting would be quite badly against that.

No, it just ignores the original compo ranking but doesn't aim to also ignore the ones that placed high.

The voting process behind this award is fragile. If we want the results to have any value, we all have a responsibility in making sure the process is as unbiased as possible.

I'm unsure: Is there a large silent majority out there supporting this viewpoint? Or is the Public Choice now officially a popularity contest?

Idea: Recently, there was talk about the pouet prod db having a link to users for credits. Who coded, did the music, etc. If that was available, how about only letting people who had a credit on a production in the given year have a vote in the Public Choice category?

(I'm not seriously advocating this BTW, just spitballing. Maybe someone can bounce of it).

noby, i guess i was unclear. more like, isn't the idea to be able to reflect upon the entries of past year to figure out what truly were the best entries, and not just vote for something that feels great during the compo of any given party.

revivals idea sounds more reasonable for all the categories except the publics choice category.

I like the idea with a hidden jury and all, but I honestly think publics choice should just be free for all voting - otherwise i will have to create something hideous just to be able to vote :)

revival: the pouet side of that will happen in v2, but i think tying it to awards is a pretty scary idea.

nosfe, yes but that's a pipe dream unfortunately

maybe we need something like "alternative awards" 8)

nosfe, of course you would vote for the best releases of the last year, so the new releases at that party wouldn't have anything to do with it :)

Rez I do respect your work on your sweet prods, I don't like them but there's an obvious attention to detail in them (which is why I don't thumb them down, though maybe I should for a bit of hardening?). The problem is that you behave like a baby. What I wrote made you sad? Demotivated? You want peace of mind? Dude, when you release something on the scene, the rules are obvious - you'll get thumbs up, thumbs down, you'll be praised, criticized, maybe you'll even get some pics of extremely stretched anus in your cute prod's thread (go show it to your numerous friends and family so they can vote). Seriously, you should have known better. If you can't accept that then maybe indeed you shouldn't release, for your own health.
Thanks to the fact that your group sells pirated software for fame instead of money, you are much more popular than you would be thanks to your prods only, your expectations are hugely overinflated and everytime you get a thumb down, a bit of criticism, or even a slight tuning of scene.org rules happens, the neverending stream of whining and soap opera begins (which now I'm a part of, bleh).
Oh, and about your concern whether one day scene.org will be selling DVDs with your prods without your knowledge - don't worry, Razor 1911 will release the torrent so you can have a free copy! Maybe you can even code an intro for it! Lol.

LOL and here is what I as the worlds´ greatest lamer would like to say about all this (and I take that 4 pages of shit prove me right):

FUCK THE AWARDS.

Seriously,
you do have thumbing up or down on pouet.
You do have voting on demoparties.
You do have the top of the month here on pouet.
You do have the all-time top here on pouet.

And, most important (as I believe) you have actual people, standing right in front of you on demoparties, telling you that your prod was scheiße. or that your prod was fucking great.

What MORE do you need?

Ever since I witnessed scene.org-Awards, I only thought:
"Jesus, each of them is spreading his sperm over each others faces"

Really, the Oscars already suck, but the scene.org-Awards suck even more, especially because there is no need for all of this. It is just attentionwhoring at its best. And Smash always gets to swallow most of the sperm you other guys spread on him ;)

Seriously: FUCK THE AWARDS. They are useless and pointless. Just a bunch of 1337 sceners jerking on their own egomania.

Sir, word! ;)

Sir has the lead... But you're taking this shit too seriously. If you don't like them just ignore it, like you do you with the best olive oil in the world award, or similar corporation boosting awards.

xernobyl: i dont have the lead. And i dont want to.
But i meant it like I said. The whole awards are a giant jerk-off.
I am really happy that I wont have to witness them again neither on Breakpoint (obviously) nor on Revision (apparently). 2 hours wasted with Awards, should have been spent on a Romeo Knight concert instead.

Sir: you're free to ignore the Scene.org Awards. You should probably also get that sperm-obsession checked out by someone, it seems a tad unhealthy :)
added on the 2012-04-18 09:58:27 by gloom gloom
sir: i wonder if the awards have more meaning to people who _actually make demos_.
but then film awards probably have more relevance to people who make movies than people who just show up to gawp at the pretty dresses.

In fact, we want to get the "public choice" award this year again not for the fame but only to help smash because he will suffer big problems at the airport with that bunch of heavy metal in his luggage.
