"my days of Lurking And Not Releasing Anything Because I Just Think All My Stuff Is Shit are well and truly over"

that's almost the biggest hurdle one can get over in my opinion.
if you start releasing stuff you'll still think your stuff is shit, but maybe the rest of the world wont agree, and you'll also get better a whole lot faster .. the last 5% of work that it takes to get something from something on your hd into a released product is so huge and you learn a vast amount from doing it.

re Garg: dude, Garg, I told you. Are you losing your memory at your advanced age? *wry*
(for reference to those who don't know me yet, I'm a number of years older than he is, also JARIG recently)

"if you start releasing stuff you'll still think your stuff is shit, but maybe the rest of the world wont agree, and you'll also get better a whole lot faster"

THIS! With underline and bold!

Thank you very much for saying that smash. In fact, t-zero gave you and your first musicdisk as an example of why I should take heart as I begin to learn.

re visy (belatedly): If you come to Boston perhaps you can ride with us.
kb already has, and did rather well. : )
re t-zero

I didn't think you were dumb, but I was confused when you say "why am I typing in caps"

Looking forward to meeting you at @party 2012, or before perhaps.
Ferris: no but I mean will you be allowed back to Norway afterwards? :)

Well, considering doing truck's dual trip this time...

But either way, I've been to TG twice now (and had a wonderful time); time to try something new this year!

smash:

Yeah, that. That's related to why I want to write new music for any compos I enter, rather than rely on mining the archives for old tunes.

metoikos - it's okay, I didn't think you did, really!

also, re: this -

"t-zero gave you and your first musicdisk as an example of why I should take heart as I begin to learn."

For the viewers at home, this wasn't me saying smash's first musicdisk was shit, just to clarify! ;) It was about how in the late 90s / early 2000s, I only knew of smash as a tracker musician from the (smaller and much less active back then) UK scene. And now, he is mainly known as a competent coder who's written well-regarded demos.

yes, that is the example he gave. I was unclear.

NA scene, listen to Mr Smash! Produce produce produce!!
Produce mor Apple 2 demos! :D

Produce produce produce ?

I'm working on a new demo but I think I will release it in Europe instead.
I would release it at pixeljam 2012 or @party 2012 only when s_tec or coda get involved and help me put everything together :) I already have track (w/ vocal), some graphics and textures.
I believe coda is better bet since s_tec is always busy :]

re Forcer
I don't understand why you're saying you will release it in Europe instead. Please clarify? You'll release it in europe unless coda or s_tec help you? Hey coda . . .

re Exin
I want to do an Apple II demo. Badly. Although it's not the first thing on the list it's burningly there. My first machine (not the first I used, but the first that was *mine*) was an Apple IIGS, and I actively used it for longer than I ever have any other machine (no longer have it, my parents gave it away). I have IIe in the basement that a kind friend gifted me, and Dr Claw has a MacSE which has been used to make entries at each @party so far. If only to carry on that decision, I will do something to the SE as well. : D

It seems oddly fitting that I both feel an allegiance à des francophones et aussi j'ai une allégeance au des Apples anciens.
I mean because there was a lot of Apple sceners in France
metoikos: in the year '92... I got an apple IIgs with lot's of hardware. Have you seen the Free Tool Association demos on it? I started to code a disk demo back then (I got the loader, a loading screen and disk eject in asm), but felt hopeless with the graphic chip and could not stand typing on this hard-key keyboard for too long without feeling pain. :(

I think there could be 2 young apple iigs scener in Singapore. ;)

metoikos,
I know I should release it in US but it all depends on who else will get involved in this project. I would like to make it with either Guy Frost, Coda or s_tec so if I end up working with Guy Frost, demo will be released in Europe since he's from Netherlands.
But I think coda will be making demo for @party so it's very possible I will try to join him but I'm thinking about something much "darker" than he usually makes, a UFO sightings inspired demo. I will email him over the weekend. We just finished invitation demo for blockparty but all the dates are messed up so I'm not sure if we will have to change them of just leave it as it is since there is no official date for bloackparty :[

F-Cycles: J'ai vu quelques IIGS demos, mais j'ai perdu le fichier ROM that I need to run my emulator so I haven't gotten to see many yet : P I do know of the Free Tool Association et young IIGS sceners would be awesome.

Krue: I actually was poking around trying to find un Apple IIGS sample pack I could use with SchismTracker, because the Ensoniq was a big step up from the sound options on the old chips, but had no luck. I know, I ought to do it the real way . . . I'll point anyone I find your way.

Forcer: ah, ok. You know, we have had European sceners entering stuff at @party as remote entries, like the Commodore PET demo the first year.
And if I get together an entry I am happy with, I will release something at Revision. If I get to go to PixelJam as well I will come up with something without fail (making a Revision entry scares me, but at PixelJam I know I'll be among a smaller group of folks I already know).

I'd like to go to Blockparty too, whenever it is. For that I'd likely make a wild entry onsite like last time because that was a lot of fun.
I was always more interesting in the process of making demo/gfx/animation rather than actually attending any party. So for me it doesn't really matter where that demo will be released but since I live in the US, I think it should be @party or pixeljam.

Yeah; any release from North American-based sceners is good for the NA scene, but releasing at the NA parties is even better.

I suppose I ought to get the Montreal party properly named since I'll likely keep doing it, so I can exhort people to release at it ( : Well except unless it grows appreciably, I'm going to stick to the one fast demo compo format.

And yay Forcer.

Also, I'll note I don't intend to release at my own parties because with limited energy I'd rather expend it to enrich other compos, as @party has not hurt for entries so far and for that matter neither did last year's Montreal party. November and June seems just about right.

Realizing that makes me rather cheerful. Produce, produce! : D

Thanks for the backup, t-zero.
metoikos: Oh, talking about Montreal party.. it's now soldout for the evening-viewing event. Lucky, I got the last tickets for our demogroup. I wanted to wait until I was back in town before filling up... any news where the event will be?
added on the 2011-11-04 20:59:50 by F-Cycles F-Cycles
The event info should be emailed to you when you sign up. If it wasn't, let me know I'll check to see what went wrong.

hopefully everyone who signed up comes! I can't increase the numbers unfortunately as space is limited.

Aussi . . . j'ai envoyé un courriel à Intruder sur le sujet du party . . . je vais transfére le courriel à tu aussi a cause de peut-être tu peut aider . . .

Je pense que je vais avoir un sondage au Mtl party pour choisir le nom : )
metoikos,
What kind of demo you will be making? Maybe I could get you some gfx.

I said:

"PROBABLY TOO LATE FOR KINDERGARDEN (LOL MAKING MUSIC OVER THIS LAST WEEKEND FAILURE)"

This, assuming my remote-entry is downloaded in time for the KG dance music compo deadline, was a lie. :)
