Expect to look like you're chewing a pen instead of smoking, if that's your thing,

People really smoke these? I never saw anybody smoking one.

Punqtured: looks like a one brand propaganda site.

Oh - just thought it looked like a site with reviews of various types of e-cigarettes.

@olivil: Sure - even though they're not something you see every day.

Actually, that should be a big, red alert in the face of everyone thinking of getting one. I think they'd be a lot more popular if they were actually a good alternative to either quit smoking or take a walk outside for a breath of "fresh air".

A friend of mine at work has one, and it seems there's quite some maintenance in them. Charging batteries, getting filters and liquid for the filters etc. etc. It's probably neither cheaper nor more convenient. Especially not compared to chewing gum, tablets or patches containing nicotine. I personally use che chewing gum when I know meetings will be for hours without breaks, long travels (like the danish bustrip to Revision) and such ;)

A few people in my office tried them a while back. None of them use them now (they're all still smoking). Guess that's what you can expect ;)

they're ridiculous .. makes you look like a little baby sucking on a tit. if you want to quit, quit. if not, smoke.

plaf: it would be pretty damn cool if it looked like a tit! Or would it? Actually no.. a tit without t woman attached.. it'd just be a ball with a nipple.

I don't smoke, but a friend of mine that used to smoke a lot told me they're ok but aparently the battery on the smaller ones doesn't last long. If that's worth anything. That's all I remember.

I've used one for years. Best thing that ever happened to me. Sure, it may not look cool, but attempting to look cool is the reason many of us started smoking in the first place. This is a viable alternative, and it's quite enjoyable, really.

That's crap, though. It's considerably cheaper in the long run. Chewing gum and patches are not especially cheap, either, and they are a terrible substitute.

As for maintenance, yes, you need to get used to that. Batteries only last until they run out, obviously, and the devices work by vapourising liquid, which obviously requires a lot of power for a small battery. But then you keep a spare battery with you, and/or a USB charger for your laptop, or whatever. Also, keep a little bottle of liquid for refilling now and then. It's a bunch of small rituals you have to do, but a lot less work than, say, rolling cigarettes, which many smokers seem quite happy to do.

I know several people who have successfully switched, on the other hand. Guess that's something else you can expect. In my experience, about half the people who try them won't get used to it, because the taste is quite different (sweeter and much less ashy), and the sensation, although similar, is still not quite the same.

It helps if you're aware of how they differ from cigarettes. For one thing, the pressure-activated ones have a simple on/off sensor, so sucking harder on it won't increase the output like it would on a cigarette. In fact it'll only help to cool down the heating element which results in less vapour. You need a slow, steady draw, or alternatively try to think of it as a pipe.

Another option is to get one with a manual switch. Less convenient if you ask me, but there are some manual models that have quite large batteries. Doesn't make it look any more cool, of course, but it is nice to be able to go a full day on a charge.

I usually buy from here. They ship to most of Europe. If you can get past the unbelievably silly website, they have a good range, and it's all quality. Here is a good forum for e-cig users.
