Someone need a music for his demo to release to the Main ?

psonice: It's as far from the truth as it could be, simply and factually: It's a loop based editor, which means you need loops (=example data) to get anything out of it. No different than compiling the DX SDK samples or using some bundled clipart. You also need a basic sensibility to be able to put them together (key-matching, etc.), which is the same as stitching sample codes together or using correct blending modes.

It is not one bit easier.

Yes, writing good music is hard and takes a long time. That's exactly what psonice is saying. However, his point (I think) is that it's easy for someone to pick up some music software and make something mediocre, and call themselves a musician - more so than code or graphics - which means that it can be hard for good musicians to get noticed among the crowd.

gibs: actually, I fully understand your point, and totally agree. That's exactly why I'm not a musician. I don't think it's just 'inspiration' though.. in the past, I've learned the tools well enough, and had inspiration, but the end result lacks something.

I'm talking about people *starting* to learn music/code/gfx/whatever. Nothing more. When *starting*, I think music is easier (unless you have a talent for gfx, in which case gfx is perhaps easier) and the first results are better. That's my experience, having tried all 3. It's fairly painless to start, the results are instant and rewarding, and it's fun. That's why I think there are many musicians.

I'm not *in any way* comparing the first tune of a new musician to a decent track produced by somebody good with lots of experience, it's obviously going to sound like shit in comparison. What I am comparing with is the first 'hello world' exe, or first attempt at painting on a computer. I think between those, the music will win.

What I mean is that you're all arguing, even non musicians and then, some statement are made up from nowhere and it's ugly, you all make me want to cry :(

That's exactly what I disagree with, especially in the age of, say, ZBrush or Processing. Also, do note what I said about samples and clipart.

kaneel: it's wrong, but we're human and not perfect. Also language is a long way from perfect. Only way to fix it is if we all speak through lawyers, and fuck that. Best to accept it in all it's wonder + horror :)

I actually could talk about these topics but god, better do it in real life than on pouet. Anything I would say would end up sounding emo and "oh I lurv philosophy, I read vampire stories" (if you know what I mean)

gasman/psonice: Everyone thinks they understand music but few people pretend to understand code. I can rip someones code and present it as my own because code is hidden behind the veil. Sure I'll feel bad, but only the dude with the hex editor will know. If I steal a sample or even just a melody from Tempest's chiptunes, the world will now !

With music and gfx everything is laid bare. Just look at the comments on any recent ASD prod for evidence of this. People chat shit about the music a lot but say next to nothing about the quality of the code running the whole show.

Perhaps you're right that the barrier to entry for music is lower, any kid can bash on pots and pans, but it's also very easy for most people to recognise that this sounds like shit.
