Any demo on the Apple App Store?

category: general [glöplog]
Those were the two reasons for rejection indeed: not interactive and had the word "demo" in the description. Demo versions of games etc. are usually called "lite" versions, so renaming the demoscene to litescene would take care of that, but not the lack of interactivity (which, on the other hand is a crappy reason).

plaf: zio seams nice but it is not really a "demo", and it's not free :(
There are lots of "Entertainment" apps that are really just interactive effects, which is nice, but are not "demos"... :(. The problem is that the people approving the apps don't understand "Demos" and "The Scene". Probably the description needs to be something like "Real Time Calculated Movie" or something like that...
true, but it's something on the AppStore which is an effect you can look at, and nothing else. Seems like a precedent to me :o)

given that "demo" means something else in the app store context, it would probably be a good idea to call it something else. like "demoscene production" or whatever..

We should all forget the iSomething and go make a demo for the Pandora at least :)

Probably using a menu, and group some demos, and calling them Real Time Video Clips for musics, probably it is just a mater of app description... like plat said zio is like a demo, it is realtime calculated, you can look and nothing else. So DemoScene demos can be on the app store :) And we can also mail Steve Jobs, sometimes that work :)

It's funny how everyone is certain that a demo wouldn't be allowed on the appstore. Just like everyone said Opera, Skype and what not would never be allowed. And then one day there they were anyways.

There are demo-effect apps on the store already (look for plasma), and if they make it, I'm sure normal demos would too. Just call them realtime audio/visual demonstration or something like that.

Someone with the skills (I certainly do not have that) should try and port a demo and put it there. I'm sure some of the very portable FIT-demos could be rather quickly moved to the platform.

paulo, given that emailing Steve (capital s) is your hobby, why don't you give it a go? i'm sure he'll love hearing from you again!

btw i heard that there is a wall in jeruzalem, if you print your email and stick it into a crack in that wall, then Steve gets it! amazing!

It takes 3 months to get the (expensive!) membership to even start coding for the device (you can code in the emulator meanwhile but that gives a few false positives).
Then to get the app released you have to wait some more..
I dropped the platform as it's too cumbersome to support and the app store acceptance is based on the amount of coffee steve had in the morning....

besides, any demo made with the help of any library will not be accepted.
I.e. you can't use fmod for instance...

Bullshit, my friend did a SNDH player using the SC68 lib, no problems to get it in the Appstore.

One day for me. Still, it's a locked-down consumer platform from a company led by one of the seemingly most self-absorbed and generally unsympathetic public figures alive. You could choose to support a better device if you're a hobbyist...

skrebbel, i had never send an email to Steve Jobs, i had never coded a demo for the iPhone and i do not have a Mac, i just talked about emailing Steve Jobs because sometimes he read emails from random guys.
If i had a Mac, had the membership, had programmed a demo for the iPhone, had submitted the demo to approval, and the demo was not approved, then i would send Steve Jobs an email explaining my situation. Probably i would be lucky, probably not... but at least i had tried.
There are more then 225000 apps now on the app store, and none of them are a demoscene demo. Why?

It is because we (Demoscene) do not want / try to put our productions on the App Store?

Or Apple do not want our productions on be the App Store?

Or the we do not really care about the iPhone at all?

Ok... Probably all of them together... :(
I think is sad that now i have to jailbreak my iPhone to view a demo :(
I also think it is sad that now i have to view most of the demos on youtube, instead of viewing them on the real system... :( Most demos don't run on my laptop, and there are no demos on the App Store for my iPhone :(

Or you probably just didn't read the thread carefully enough.
didn't demoscene.tv have an app to watch demos on the iphone?

Saga Musix, probably i didn't read the thread carefully enough.

We do care about the iPhone, there are demos for the iPhone:

Like mop said there are:

Dime Cross
(+45)tro

There is also this one from DMA:

Delta with source code! :)

As far as i know none of them is on the App Store :(
