Either it's a myth or he's doing it wrong.

to stradi:

Even if you´d be just a troll whos annoying us here, i´ll take it serious.
Maybe there are others who plan to skribble some shit, and maybe my few words destroy their dreams a of pulitzer price.

You pretend to be a writer.
To be honest, a few questions:

- Why (the fuck) are you plan to write a book about a thing you dont understand?

- Who shall it read? It is written for the "ordinary ppl"?
They wont read it, there are books which explain the demoscene mostly perfect. And for all others there are Sites like Digitale Kultur, Scene.org or even Wikipedia who inform ppl what this is all about.

and now please go and write a book about scientology, they have nice releases and competitions too.

I once found these passages and copypasted them in a text file for their fun value:

Quote:

"Wright noticed that the demoscene programmers and artists had not abandoned procedural generation like the gaming industry. They worship programming like some kind of black cult. So he hired an elite force of top programmers from the scene."

Quote:

"I don't mean to sound negative about that. We have massive respect for the community, and hope to some day learn more deeply of their ways. I really feel like joining up with the scene and learning from their community would be like training under some kind of Shaolin Master (Will Wright obviously
feels the same, because a lot of his Spore crew were supposedly recruited from the scene) but as Bruce Lee's philosophy of Jeet Kun Do states, all learning should be tuned toward discovering your own inherent style. Don't follow one master blindly."
scene is not a sect, it's a bunch of aliens assuming the world domination. \o/

The scene is less of a sect than Google. Also, we have better coders.

Now, people who travel the world around to display their VW they've spent 8 months styling... all that talk about car parts you've never heard of and obscure Slovakian tyre brands... they must be a sect for sure. Car-nerd sceners...

Sorry for the long delay, was traveling from USA to India and had to translate many texts in Sanskri.

qu: Is this a sect or what? Art Demoscene - killing it or what?

As far as I've understood you gather all at parties then switch off the light, get pants off and get fascinated by demos shown on the big screen, seems very much like a sect to me.

According to what I see in many comments and pictures posted all over this website and slengpung, you're heavy drinkers and mostly German aren't you?

I mean the German speaking style (direct + sarcasm + ironic) and unrefined manners are omnipresent.

Don't you know it is culturally considered extremely rude worldwide and thus is rude on the Internet?

Mind your manner and style, as I'm not only a writer, I'm also a specialist in international laws and I don't like to be rushed.

Regards

Please define the two before using them like 9mm Para in a Tommy gun!

Cult != Sect

Also - and that applies to almost every internet forum everywhere - threatening the community and/or the hosts of the forum with legal issues like "I'm a specialist in intl. laws" results in nearly 100% of all cases in a permament BAN.

Did you read the freakin' FAQ about this particular "oldskool BBS" ???

What is it with morons registering on this BBS and trying to force outrageous discussions.
Some freak proposes that the "scene" has to be a profitable enterprise in order to "stay alive", the next "writer" postulates the theory that a bunch of creative people meeting and competing with each other is a sect and follows cults (well, if it's a meme ... ).

dodge: this moron (also known as ep) has been banned before, multiple times. Doesn't stop him from registering a new user and keeping up his shit though.

Neither of which actually classify the demoscene as a sect: the first one is talking about one specific demo group ("zomg they have an influential leader, and so do cults... they clearly must be the same thing") and the second one is talking about a clique within the scene who decided to have a private party.

And neither those is an "article published in mainstream media" either. Are you seriously saying you're going to use a bunch of quotes on random websites criticising a community most people have never heard of as a basis for a book?

Right, since you're an expert in legal issues you're probably quite big on definitions, so let's see:

Quote:
sect /s'ekt/
A sect is a group of people that has separated from a larger group and has a particular set of religious or political beliefs.

I don't see anything about parties, lights, pants, drinking or rudeness mentioned there. So how exactly does that back up your argument?
