Capped.TV looking for global mirrors!

category: general [glöplog]

I keep asking around, none seem too interested, so making a thread. :)

I'm looking for mirrors for capped.tv content. Particularly some fast links in Europe. Capped.TV's server is located in the US, and connection speeds over the pond tend to be a little less than ideal. I often get complaints that streams don't load fast enough over perfectly capable links.

So! Anyone willing to offer some mirror space, please please get in touch with me. Post here or poke me at me@micksam7.com

The video archive at the moment is 23 GB, and will of course be forever growing. A standard HTTP server is needed to stream, and a simple ftp connection for uploading will be fine.

I already have a simple geoip distribution system set up, but if someone wants to suggest something else, I'm all ears. :)

I would have gladly helped if I was still in my previous apartment, but in the new one I had to change ISP and my upload speed now suxx terribly.

What's the estimated bandwidth usage? 0.5-1TB per month will do? I've a total of 2TB per month after which my datacenter limits the bandwidth to 10Mbit/s but there are other people using the server so staying below 50% of total bandwidth would be optimal. The server itself is locate in Germany.

Also I don't think that geoip loadbalancing is such a good idea. Most sceners are from Europe so the US server could be underloaded. Maybe some kind of round-robin with priorities? You could then set custom priorities for servers according to their load and bandwidth capacity (servers with lower monthly bandwidth could get lower priorities etc).

micksam7: need to know more about the bandwidth requirements to respond. Space is no issue, but bandwidth can be.

Ah, yeah, forgot to mention bandwidth :)

Bandwidth on capped is totally variable.. sometimes it uses 200 GB a month, on average it's 500 GB a month.. though I've had months where it got up to 2 TB before cutting it off [big forum linked a video].

I can adjust the distribution system to limit how much a mirror is used, including cutting off that mirror entirely if it goes over a set bandwidth limit [or letting it's owner disable it].

And thanks for the offers so far guys. :) I'll get to the mails shortly. Masterm - email me. :)

Someone offered me CDN service with a large CDN provider.. I'ma see what that is about.

Might not need to worry about mirrors if that deal goes through.. heh.

Will keep people updated.
