doom: I find it a bit funny how you can't stop quoting me. My point is, someone knows very well if he used PhotoShop or Paint to draw a picture. You can't deny that. The same goes for any Amiga Tracker vs. Mad Tracker.
In case you haven't got it: My comment was not about the incident itself, it was about the weak wording on Gorf's side, which makes him sound not very convincing.
Whooo. 6 hours later and the JS2 thread is still going strong. And their only defence still consists of insults and swearing. Classy developers there, I have to say.

There's nothing classy about it at all and taking such a laid back "ah, it'll be fine, we'll give the musician some money" stance, as though it's all signed, sealed & delivered, what are they thinking at all? Idiocy.
Dubmood, and they also got more orders since this came to light. People are trying to support them for the "unfair" attack to what was an "honest mistake".

Or they are trying to get more so they can unload on ebay when this becomes rare and unavailable.

Those people remind me of the warez people and ghettoscener fights.

dubmood: probably != actually

Saga Musix: Photoshop and Paint are very different programs. Early 90s trackers were all pretty similar. I have hundreds of unreleased, half-finished mods. For one or two of them I might be able to tell you what tracker I used to make them, but for the rest, no chance. And it wouldn't imply anything anyway, since he's not accused of not using a tracker to commit this most awful crime. There's no good reason why any "weak wording" in an answer like that would justify the "hahahaha he can't even remember" response. Considered if maybe he's just not the most eloquent bloke ever?

ChrisTOS: $3000 for a seven-year project is hardly an unreasonable thing to ask for. But anyone who makes money is a bastard, I know.

Look, I get that there's a double standard when on one hand you're a vocal opponent of software piracy, and then you're caught transgressing on someone else's IP. But it's also clearly a very minor transgression. Like including some font you found in an old folder and not bothering to check if it happened to be ripped from some old demo 20 years ago, because it's such a plain font anyway that nobody is going to complain about it.

And Arpegiator didn't complain, did he? You took the liberty of being mightily offended on his behalf. Moreover Gorf and the other bloke's confession seems to be that they don't know where the mod came from, i.e. someone ELSE raped Arpegiator's mod (maybe) and they included that raped module without giving due credit. Also, Arpegiator copied the bassline, too; it's not original in any way, so if he gets any money from the sale of the game, you'll have to have a go at him next. Right?

There's really not much of a basis for a hate campaign like this. To anyone who doesn't share your dislike for these two people and their opinions on copyright issues, e.g. to Jaguar enthusiasts who are just thrilled to have a new game released, it looks a lot like an unfair attack from some douches who were evicted from 4chan for being too mean. To someone who couldn't care less about Jaguar games, it just looks like you're getting off on the drama.

doom: No the money aren't that much agreed and yeah, you might say that it's not a really big deal and yes noone really cares about the jaguar. All these are fair points and putting my objective hat on I agree: It's a minor trasgression.

Still the fact remains that they used a mod that wasn't theirs and passed it on as their own.

If you or I had done that to one of their mods or anything theirs for that matter, we'd have been contacted by their lawyers. And if we had used that mod in anything profit or non profit, before the plagiarising was discovered, we'd have to face "THE DRAMA". And I mean the original mod.

So yeah you are perfectly right to think that I am offended for other reasons too, not only because they used for profit something that wasn't theirs.

Indeed the mentality, plagiarising is OK only when we do it, gets on my nerves.

I don't doubt my lack of objectivity here, or your points. And I also think that Arpegiator won't be offended but I do believe he'll be a bit (or more than a bit) annoyed. Wouldn't you?

Gloom, i don't like your way of being ironic.
added on the 2009-08-12 14:39:46 by iks iks
What "ironic"? I'm genuinely saddened by the fact that someone is stupid enough to steal a song that _comes with the tracker_ and claim it as his own. Do you disagree with that being a daft thing to do?
added on the 2009-08-12 14:45:03 by gloom gloom
Sorry. I thought you were saying that our (Titan) way of reacting here was "too much" and that it wasn't worth all of that since it was only a Milkytracker demo song. My bad Gloom =)

Hm, does the name of the original imply that it is a Turrican-cover btw? Or is that just coincidental?
added on the 2009-08-12 16:41:56 by gloom gloom
Admittedly svenzzon also left out direct credit to Chris Hülsbeck and instead relied on the notoriety of the song within the scene.
