I like my VSTi's in cubase and my good old FT2 in DOS. For windows i just rediscovered skale a few weeks ago... it was useless a few months back, but it can save XMs and all now, so... that's what i'll use for my (posible?) comeback to tracking. Let's see what comes out of it.
Nowadays I stick to Reason (fabulous), but I often miss the text-mode tracking feeling.
So I run Impuse Tracker on a PC purposely built for it, with only recycled components (and a ISA SB16), export some chords, leads, whatever to MIDI file, and import it in Reason. That just works fine.
Cubase SX is neat too. Especially synched with Reason.
Oh, and I second people against Modplug Tracker. And against all tracking softwares that only offer FT2-like GUIs.

I'm tracking in modplug tracker.
It's ok for me even though I'm getting angry since the alt keys are quite famous in impulse tracker so I end up in the menu of modplug.
It's a shame that modplug isn't continued since it has some quite nice ground laid..

StarkOS is a very good new one, but it only comes on CPC :)

But trackers are inferior today. And dont forget melons bastard child. Hearttracker. i used to enjoy that a lot, because of the funky colors :)

why not learn how to code and write your own softsynth? It's not that big a deal, i mean, even Germans knows how to!

for win-tracking *smile* i use modplug tracker.
it has customable interface/keys and if u are used to ft2/it, u can tune it for yourself, so i did and i like it. it's really handy, true. don't like it's playback though.
skale is unfinished, renoise is very nice and i like it's sound, but what's the point in using it, if you can't save mods/xms? for "pro" purposes there's logic audio(or paste your fav sequencer here)/vst/hw stuff, as i always do. but if u are used to track and if midi suxx, then renoise is your program imho. =) for me, there's no other "nugeneration" windows trackers which were as good as it is.
and, may be new ioneo's aerostudio will hit the scene.

Aero Studio is somewhat promising and looks neat. Also, I'm pleased to see the frequent updates. After all, it's a commercial product, so they better work hard to get some customers. :) Still, there are so many things left to fix and improve that it's hardly usuable in its current state. :/ Another future option for the buzz crowd might be buzzle. At least they have an official buzz lib licence now.
In my opinion, it is not a tracker if you cannot get playroutines for it that you can use in your own productions.
I mean, what's the dang point? I spend all this time working with this package to make really great music, and then I must dump it to MP3? Why would I not just use my professional hardware and to heck with tracking?!?!?
I admit that for tracking, I am lazy and just use mpt... for all other composing I use Yamaha RM1x.

I think if MadTracker 3 will ever be released it will kick all other trackers ass
The SCREAM 4 sound destruction unit in reason 2.5 makes EVERYTHING sound good :D
