"You". What do you have up north, horse and cart?
On the tube map I've got to hand, the label for Old Street says "Old Street ([British rail symbol] no weekend service)", which I'm pretty sure means the tube is still running, just not proper trains.

We can have cars up here, and actually use them without continually swearing and eventually doing a jackson from the stress :) (And we don't have to pay for the privilege too \o/ )

psonice you will not be able to explain the virtues of private forms of transport to people in london, because i have tried!

forest: well, I can understand that. It's a simple choice really: Believe that public transport is actually ok, or realising just how bad it is but not having any choice but using it, and slowly going insane. I believe a lot of the nutcases you see around london are people who used to have a car.

I confirm Old Street tube is open at the weekends, indeed it is the British rail part which is closed.

I've just been told by the president of England that London is closed on 11th July 2009. All pubmeets and music events on that date are to be relocated to Bath.

Yeah... ZX Spectrum sign on the advert but no AY-RIDERS in the concert.

That's highly idiotic from the organizers' side.

not idiotic at all my friend, the ZX is a classic British machine, and this is a British event, and we will be featuring this machine :)

This is utterly happening, make no mistake. We're slightly worried it might hit capacity too, so head down in good time for pubmeetin'/music-listenin'/rootin'/tootin'.

You're coming, Tim? Excellent!

See you all down there - we'll be soundchecking from 5 to 7, and I dunno if the Courtyard bar will be open before then, but I'm sure you can all find fulfillment for your Saturday afternoon Shoreditch drinking requirements in the near vicinity...

it was gud
phonenix - yup, a bad business involving him, me, my girlfriend and her friend, minusbaby and Damon from Starscream. Oh, and a gang of London thugs, which increased in size as they crawled out of the woodwork - older brothers, cousins; all feral street scum.

Exchanged some blows, poor Damon got some punches to the head (he's 16, harmless and really didn't deserve it), but we all narrowly escaped a knifing and managed to get to somewhere very public before getting totally overrun. Threats of 'blasting', but they didn't look like gun types - besides, guns attract the police while knives are silent. They eventually stopped following us, presumably heading off to rob/rape/threaten other innocents.

Btw, as anyone who's used to this attitude will know (it's prevalent in the UK and ran exactly like clockwork; like I expected), there's no way out except to get to a public place. Talking won't help - you can never say the right thing, keeping silent doesn't work ("you ignoring me?") and dragging fighting people apart makes things worse, as you're basically denying them their 'right' to settle things with more violence. Plus, the girls are MUCH worse - this gang had two girlfriends with them, whose role was to give my girlfriend and our other female friend loads of hassle. They're generally more violent and even less susceptible to reason/apology-for-imaginary-offence/etc, and my gf's luck she got away without being stabbed too.

Now I'm back in Newcastle, where men are men, things are settled with fists instead of knives, and people's friends restrain them from having huge fights instead of encouraging them over bullshit concepts of 'honour'. It won't be long before it's like London, though...
