Rewired 2009 on the horizon - June 26-28

category: general [glöplog]
m0d : Beer announcement by the end of the week. Very likely that it won't be Rochefort but you'll like it nonetheless, trust me. There is a big store (Colruyt - www.colruyt.be) nearby that has plenty of options for the BBQ - we'll provide directions when required...

Rochefort? Primula? You do know that beer and cheese are different things, right? :-)

Sometimes things can actually be the same at an unexpected level...

I've never seen a cheese be 11.3% alc. Oh well, I guess there's a first... wait, hang on... which one's a cheese?

Rochefort - same in name but thats where it ends...

For proper 'trappist' cheese I can recomend Westvleteren.

Party Beer Announced

In order to give our visitors an even better party feeling, Rewired aims to team up with a local beer brewer to provide you with some brews that are very unlikely to be found anywhere else - The Party Beer.

With a sneak preview already presented at Breakpoint, for 2009 we are co-operating with the nice people from Zonderik who provided their tripel 8% alc level bew. A "Plezierbier" - a description that roughly, but wrongly, translates to "fun beer" - made with barleymalt, caramalt, coriander, cumin, carraway seed, candi sugar, honey and lagered on "heavy toasted oak".

Dutch-speakers can get more information on the Zonderik website, others who still are not convinced can read the reviews on Ratebeer.com.

So up for a taste ? Join us at the party...

Damn, given my good experience at Outline I should really go, but unfortunately I'm busy that weekend :/. Sounds nice though.

m0d: Probably not :( I was hoping it might be possible to hop on the Eurostar after work on Friday evening, but it doesn't quite work because Brussels more or less shuts down at 10pm...

(and it looks like there might be a Spectrum meetup in London on that weekend, which it's somewhat more likely I'll be going to instead)

Gasman : We'll post accurate train info soon.. You can still get a train from Brussels to Genk (no transfer required) from where we'll arrange a car-shuttle - all of this still unoficial and subject to change...

@gasman try and make it if you can :) i wonder what will eventually pan out from franky's plan, by the way slightly OT but what do the Eurostar tickets cost should you use them?
added on the 2009-06-05 13:16:22 by m0d m0d
Huzzah! not long to go :D seems attendance is going to be bigger than last year's one by a considerable number!

Also, don't forget, there is also an irc-channel #rewired on IRCNet.

@Mod : did you check eurostar.com ? There be ye olde online ticket shoppe.

Eurostar and TGV used to have "+ any belgian station" included in your ticket so you could transfer for free - but its best to doublecheck as rules & regulations tend to change back and forth every 6 months

2 weeks - well actually a little bit less - to go and we've got some more updates for you visiting and thinking about visiting people (the latter should transform themselves into the former by the way - you can announce your change of status on the registration page)

Travel Information Update

Here's a timesaver for you The Travel Page... All the train and bus information has already been worked out for you for the last leg of the trip. Either make your way to Genk by train and arrange for a shuttle - use the contact page to do that - or hop on the regional trafic by bus. Alternatively you can also get on a bus in Holland should that be easier/cheaper for you.

Digital Entertainment

Because every party has the obligatory funcorner with the predictable game-setup of a Ninentdo Wii or something oldskoolish like a Super Nintendo or Mega Drive... We had to bring something else for the chill-corner.

And what do we have.. First of all an authentic SNK Candy Cabinet with the ultimate of 2D sprite-art behind the 25" screen and buttons : Metal Slug 5. Next to that we've also got a Cirqus Voltaire pinball machine. After over 70 years of engineering in displays and gamerules and design this is one of Bally's best (and also last) pinball's designed with a 8 multiballs (up to 3 levels deep stackable) and thats not counting those from the wizard-mode.

Sounds too confusing ? Come and have a go - they'll be set to free play, ofcourse...

Compo Machine

We've been getting some questions on the compo machines and altho we do not have the final specs yet, expect pretty close-to-top-of-the-line pro gaming pc's to do some real work now as the compo machines. Yes we will allow both OpenGL and DirectX on Windows XP - if you plan on release something on Windows Vista please inform us up front so we can prepare a Vista image. Ofcourse you'll be able to test your release on the compoboxes during the party so you can do some final checking and tweaking onsite should that be required.

Internet Access

Yes we will have internet access in enough mbit's of bandwith that you do not need to worry on the amount of them. The usual ports will be available and the more than usual will be blocked as well - but unless you are planning to update your HalfLife install you shouldn't be worried about that.

For you (us) arcade & pinball freaks:

Metal Slug 5 info
Cirqus Voltaire info

Haha, goddamn! Looking forward to some Metal Slug action! That game fucking owns!

Oh, btw, do you have an idea when the music compo will be? I'd like to participate, but won't show up until Saturday afternoon.
