Compared to what else is available? Yeah!

maths is a simple invocation of ideas. back and rear.
"glory" can be many different things, not just a career in IT.

Ofcourse, as you all know, there are jobs and jobs in IT. Some horrible, some brilliant.

for glory, get a career in gospel!

For glory, become a dragon slayer. For money, pursue a career in economics.

Basically forget all that. The future is in plumbing. Lots of $$$ and you meet new people every day ;-)

You get to work over an open sewer every day too :( Plus, it's hard to pretend you're working while really making a demo if you're a plumber.

Math is fucking boring unless you have an effect to use it for. Then it's just a necessary evil.

math skillz0rz: as usual, it's a matter of talent but more importantly: a matter of training.

heavy math skills can be good as well as bad. they slow you down but they can help in exotic cases where unskilled ppl fail.

not that i am a real math nerd.. i just use what i need.

my dog codes the demos for me :D
he's using applied mathematics for that.

True, exactly what demotivates me right now. I have now some exercises to solve but it's just for exercising and I say to myself I don't wanna solve math exercises without a purpose instead of doing something useful. It's as if I have to solve a dozen of sudoku instead of working on my new secret demoengine :PPP

..ah shit! I solved 1.5 exercises yesterday and then watched Jericho all day. Now the new jericho season is on my USB stick ready to go :/

Maths is fine with me...
so optimus, what happened ? how did the asep competition go...

i read the questions, very straightforward ( apart from that one with the 90kg mass which was just wrong).

what is "the asep competition" anyway?

it is some sort of examinations organized by the state in order to get people to work in the public sector. Kind of an iq test. Adok would love it !

haha! good one,navis! :)

but knowing about maths cant be all! its just a jonglage with numbers! some ppls brain is just good at it,other ppls brain is good at sth different!

still i´m curious how you (optimus) passed it! as you´re that open with thoughts and such, blogging and writing a lot here at pouet aswell and also extra opened this thread ,i wonder why you havent stated yet! i guess we all are curious!

and maybe you could drop the test in here, could you plz?
the test is online (pdf) but it is in Greek. There are very simple maths questions (i.e. what is the 0.2% of 200) and some questions about the operation of the state (haha, what state?). But I think optimus has to be examined again on higher level maths.

All an all there were 160k people that took these exams, a sad statistic in my opinion...

oh, and by the way optimus, don't you have to prove that you have competency in computing by getting a "ECDL" certificate (or the similarly awful microsoft one) ?
added on the 2008-12-01 10:41:35 by Navis Navis
whoa, now that you mentioned it and i wikiéd it,i just hope i dont have to go through such a stupidity of an ECDL-course at some point! man, thats just....LAME?!!
i mean having to pay for to prove you are able to do some excel and knowing about how to use windows ? its just a scam, right?
but we get scammed everywhere/in everything nowadays anyway! just ask a german about gas-taxes or tobacco-taxes f.e. !
No navis, it's not the test dexiotitwn, it's the ones at 20/21 December for math teacher.
