Sex is ours?

Adok i study psychology but work at the same time as a researcher in the field of cognitive neuroscience, which is... cognition and neuroscience, together, forever!

i like what i do, but unless you find exactly the right field you won't be happy. it is very labour intensive work and, whilst i get the vibe that you won't mind staying in the lab until 9 most nights (which is fine, no disrespect intended), that's frustrating if the field isn't the most exciting thing for you, personally

and the truth is, you end up getting involved in the research work of your supervisors, and beyond that, even if you break away, your life is dictated by who will give you funding. that's science. when i graduate i am going to play as much music and have as much sex and fast rides on large motorcycles as i can before even thinking about a doctorate

forestcre: That's interesting. What is the hypothesis of your current project?

At the University of Vienna there's a master programme in Cognitive Science. Here you can find the list of courses: http://online.univie.ac.at/vlvz?kapitel=3&semester=S2007#3_28

But I'll probably not do this programme. I want to complete my MD degree first, then, if possible, do a PhD in cell biology.

now that's interesting.
go make a fucking demo about it! (no pun intended)

forest: sex on a large motorcycle eh? what a great idea!

adok: the problem you might find with a job in research, medicine, or basically anything at all really, is that the fundamental requirement is not "having an enormous iq" but "having the ability to communicate effectively with and not annoy the living shit out of other human beings". in other words - good luck son! you might need it. (one piece of advice: you might want to skip the whole eugenics thing in the job interview, it doesnt usually go down too well)

Adok, maybe you have not felt it yet, but there is an instinct to have children. One day you start feeling/thinking "hey, it would be nice to have kids", thats all.

i was always wondering- how come that people with supposedly high IQs can come up with so very stupid questions, and fail to understand some very, very basic things?

Listen to smash. His words are truth.

You don't understand how subjective science is once you have really practiced it. There is almost always more than one version of "groundbreaking discovery" and the person who sells it best wins.

kelsey: It's just that your IQ is too low to understand why their behavior is as brilliant as it really is.

"Groundbreaking discoveries" are named many years after their show up. Ideas are praised as they become basis for other ideas.
kelsey:
Quote:
Leonard: So what happened?
Sheldon: I got my job back.
Leonard: How?
Sheldon: I'm not entirely sure. It involves a part of the human experience that I'm not familiar with.
Leonard: That narrows it down.

kelsey, i can't really tell about this high-iq thingy, but as far as i know an iq is measured by measuring how the brains of a person can solve stuff... it's not really about feelings, which is 50% of every human being.

you know... having an iq-test and having high results is all nice for being smart in a definition given by society...

but actually it's not smart, because, for example adok is lacking something which is (in my own definition of intelligence) totally necessary for actually being smart:

Feelings and using them the right way.

in his very special case for example: social competence... but that's just a symptom for the lack of feeling how other people think/react/feel about what he says/does...

he's not smart... he's stupid as can be! because he's a person living inside his brains ... and that's just 50%. no feelings... no empathie... and i don't have to prove (proove?) that, he proves it himself every fucking time.

just my 2c... i can't really express myself in englisch about this stuff but i've got some knowledge (and don't ask me about my work, thx).

he has got serious problems and i really whish he never gets any children... for their own sake! no offence adok, but really, you're emotionally crippled, totally... and you have to accept it, there's no way you can think yourself into this one...

now go listen to sad music and tell me that you've cried so i can actually believe again that you're still human, thank you.

sorry for ranting, it's just that i feel (i mean it. i can feel people around me and what's going on in them) many people have problems and he is actually one of the worse...

no, it's not only about Adok, i mean, lots of people with "high IQs" really fail to grasp the most simple concepts, such as love, family or other social relations. i know a guy, who is really really smart, yet is turning towards paranoia by now, as he started to "classify" people, put people into groups, tried to find dunno, background networks and whatsoever. i completely lost track of him by now, i don't know, he might be even dead as paranoia got the best of him.

might be that a sense of higher intelligence cripples people emotionally, i'm not sure why. maybe it's because of being an "outsider", or feeling that because they're so smart nobody will understand them... or i just might be approaching it from a very simple POV.

i'm totally sorry for these guys, they miss so much.

or being "smart", becoming a member of a "high IQ society" is itself an escape from, as said, being emotionally crippled and coming from a messed up background. it might be a self-worth thing.
added on the 2008-11-07 21:55:38 by kelsey kelsey
as far as i've learnt it's because of how much love (and everything that has to do with feelings) a person gets and how the kids feelings are treated. (treated? sorry...)

yeah kelsey, there are MANY of them... it's just brains ... totally unbalanced.

it's sad.. actually he really needs help.

you know, i've once saw a pic of you, adok, sitting in a room. behind you a wall crowded with pictures and i just thought:
OH MY GOD THAT'S TOTALLY BRAINFUCKED!

soo much input... that's no feeling... that's just filling the brain with noise... i guess you're whole family is "oriented" in this way.

i really do feel sad for you.
