not with reason, for sure.

ofcourse it can be done with reason.
just find out the specs of the old machine you want to resemble and then stick to those sounds.
for example: two subtractors with unmodulated, unfiltered, pure square-waves with apropriate wave-length, another one with unfiltered and unmodulated triangle-wave and then maybe a nice white noise-sample for kick-ass drums will sound like a NES.

but the point with doing this kind of music in a program such as reason is imho half-lost. get out your favourite, "old machine" and get yourself a tracker-program of the internet for it :)

I have created a semi-ish old-school tune in Reason, just for fun. :)

Like Lithis suggested, just forget about Reason. You might come reasonalbly close (ha ha), but why bother... It may be infuriatingly difficult to you to learn some weird tracker, but I think you'll enjoy that a lot more than making reason jump hoops it wasn't initially intended for.

I hear people mainly use either buzz or renoise these days.

if you have patience until right after tUM i'll get you a video tutorial for renoise. if i remember it. i'm sure shifter will bring his digicam to record it.

i do need a digicam. how else would i be able to catch the user attitude, party feeling and organic material required to properly use renoise on the video?

Topic bump !

I've achieved the production of my 1st commercial Reason refill, dedicated to acoustic drums :
http://garagedrums.audiobank.fm

No loops, only realistic, natural and warm drum-kits.
