... and where servers can be used by the russian business network to spread their trojans ? :P

rez: modules aren't streamable (you might need a sample from the end of the file right at the start of the song...) but I'd think a mod player with some network support should do an equivalent job. You'd have to send out the first song, then a time to start downloading the next one (because you'd need to load the next track before the current one finishes).

I guess that shouldn't be too hard, but it'd need a client instead of just playing in a browser (well, there are plugins).

There are firms doing data recovery:
http://www.datexeurope.com/recovery/data-recovery.html

The site states costs from 500 EUR to 2000 EUR to recover data from a crashed HD. AFAIK Yes has a broken HD with a complete backup of sources and data - if he hasn't thrown the HD away maybe there is a way by letting a firm recover/repair the HD (must be done in a clean air room). Of course we have to donate, because the costs will be high.

It's was very saddening to see this message on the beloved nectarine website. I believe in the strength of the nectarine and people who support their favourite demoscene radio and I hope nectarine will revive soon.

Good luck to Yes and all the reviving crew.

Wow, scene brotherhood at its best.
this is what happens when you host your servers yourself. i have a couple of sites that got defaced 5-10 times last year, however my webhost provided backup facilities and a nice web-interface. That allowed me to bring back the site while working to close the holes at the same time.

Too bad for nectarine though ...
That stream didn't play much of nectarines sound (c64/amiga/atari) :\ bleh!

Judging a stream that's only been up for what, a day? :\
yeah i'm very happy to hear that we already got the first people bitching. Is very motivating, you know? Why don't you set up a stream on your own, Gryzor? or even better, listen to the songs on your own harddisk.

Let's all hope that "hacker" gets flamed and rots. That babyface surely feels himself very powerful now for a bullshit stunt like that. Destroying a free, by-the-people-for-the-people site... I am sure that the scene will get him - sooner or later..

That's the scene spirit, providing new/mirror streams and keeping them going! That's something these bullshit kiddies can't hack. Word.

Hurrah for Arab, I now have scene music at work again!!

What a hero! :D
to answer rez's question. Yes, it's possible. Just play the song and then sends the output to the stream, it's possible to do that on the server. I guess you meant by 'not cenverting to mp3' as you didn't want to convert them into mp3's and have them laying on the server. Just play them and send them. :)

And i've just heard Stormlord! I'm happy now. It's gratifying that people in the know have the heart to keep this going. If there's anything graphically I can do to aid in the ressurection, i'll be happy to help.
ahh.. the power of great scenemusicstreaming is at least partly back :)

I'm terribly saddened by these news. I've loved and listened to Nectarine since 2004 and it's been my second home since 2007.

It's completely understandable that Yes has decided to step down but I'm excited to hear that so many people have decided to help rebuild this remarkable community. I think there's no point in grieving too long over this. Let's instead try to rebuild Nectarine and let's try to learn something from this: Do multiple backups regularly (not aimed at Yes in any way, but it's clearly needed). I've started uploading all the Nectarine mp3's I have. Also, contacting a professional hd recovery firm to recover the most recent backups (or maybe hacked the web server) would be wise so that we have something to work with.

I agree that it might be a sensible idea to get something minimal and simple up and running as fast as possible. A random mp3 stream with multiple relays is sufficient to begin with. If you want some web stuff maybe song info pages could be nice, I love to see which demo a certain tune comes from and to have a Pouet link. It's an awesome way to use a good tune to promote a group and a demo production. It would of course be nice to have a rich site with lots of features but that would require a lot of work from someone dedicated and who is supposed to take that responsibility now that Yes has stepped down? Keeping it simple feels like the way to go if no-one is prepared to dedicate a lot of their time to restoring and maintaining Nectarine.
