white/grey/black/red/white hat is just the same thing for me. It's some sort of mania that looks cool and everyone wants to be a hacker, where hacker does not mean anymore someone who simply likes programming or a very skilled guy or anything, but just what most people would understand. Destroying or not destroying, but defacing sites, doing the wannabe-cyberanarchistic thing, I mean anything that the iliterate will identify as hacking today and it's cool. Sorry, I don't see much of a difference here. Don't tell me I bash the old meaning of hacking because it has nothing to do with this. I mean, maybe the white hacker is doing it for a different reason but the same mania is what everyone finds cool and spreads like hell.

Sorry... I just have some anti-hacker mania also.

I guess the problem is not the code but the MASSIVE database who dissapear...

@rez: It seems Yes has a backup of the database and MP3 from august - but all the sources are gone.

Well... This is not the first time this has happened.
And sorry to say that, but as of late I didn't like nectarine that much anymore... Yes and the other guys probably spent a lot of time working on it, so kudos for that. But I liked the old nectarine better somehow (felt faster, dj sessions, ...).

Yes has changed the text on Nectarine's site:

Quote:
This morning a script kiddie hacked nectarine.
He did post a hint on the vulnerability in the oneliner before trashing everything.
The whole Database is deleted, backup too. The only one i have is from august and doesn't include the mp3 streaming engine and some old nectarine datas.
Last week end my local HD crashed. I find the time to buy a new one but not to make a local backup. Was too stupid ...
I don't have any backup left and since the hdd moved since this morning so it's impossible to restore something.

The vulnerability was coming from multipage class i used. And he find id too fast, i was in work meeting ... Thanks to the ones who send me SMS and mails to stop him!

My motivation is too low to fight against lamers again.

If you are a donor, maybe could you unsubscribe your paypal donation ? The money left is used to pay the september hosting fee, then i will have 20 euros left on the paypal account.

Sorry guys, but i don't have enough free time to recode everything.

It's time to say goodbye.

To delete everything is a bit extreme... normally they just deface stuff. Either way it's a heavy blow. Nectarine gave me plenty of good times, I was even a subscriber :(

Fuck, didn't know it was an attack, I thought the server-HD just plain crashed or so... This really sucks!

Well, the guy destroying Nectarine must be really celebrating right now, having a good beer and maybe after that some celebratory fuck with his girlfriend.

He is lucky not to be at my sight because I would like to rip his dick off and feed it to some pigs, so he has a life long memory of his accomplishment of destroying a community - because if he wants to wank about this in the future he has nothing to get a grip on.

This guy clearly is an asshole. If hacking a site streaming non-commercial music, run and visited by computer-enthusiasts and programmers and then not leaving a kind warning or defacing it, but destroying the whole thing altogether doesn't make you an asshole, then what does?!

He probably skipped his "hacking ethics" classes...

... and of course not having backups is perfectly acceptable as long as the reason for data loss is a person (one you don't actually know who he is, or even how many are they) and not a HDD failure, which is far more likely?

really sad news indeed. I re-discovered nectarine just days ago and now this :(
(what happened to bitfellas radio btw? seems like a damn long summer vacation to me..)

and seriously: while it is really unfortunate that some random idiot crashed nectarine it seems like an even bigger WTF to me that are no recent (script-) backups!! :'(

Nooooo!!! Whyyyyy??? :( :( :(

my theory is it's Timbaland's doing... :)

The internet strikes again...
Seriously, come on. People are by definition evil and this just proves that a solid backup plan is of utmost importance.

If you believe there's such a thing as hacking ethics, you deserve to be hacked. ;)

No, seriously - this might be agood opportunity to create a scene radio that REALLY kicks ass? Or are you guys satisfied with Bitjam and Slay radio? Time will tell..
ARGH! Well, if anyone is interested in resurrecting it, I was running one of the relays and will continue to do so if it's coming back. Somehow, slayradio just doesn't cut it and feels pretty weak, compared to those old nice songs.

Sad news. Although this is why you should keep multiple backups, preferably on tape if you can afford it. Guess there's no point in repeating that in this case though. :-(

And yeah, deleting shit is incredibly lame. Where's the fun in that? Hacking's supposed to be about fun, not about ruining people's work with no personal gain.

And about the possibility of a "logged IP"... Even the most dense of script kiddies are able to masquerade through a botnet, so reporting that IP address will most likely only result in a fair amount of (well needed) distress for some clueless idiot who let his computer get infected.

I seriously doubt this kind of wanker has any beer or a girlfriend (except imaginary).

I'm in positive mood that the radio can be revived from some point. Or then redone from the start!

Maybe he just got dumped by his girlfriend or had a bad time and thought he had a good excuse to do this. FUCK.

Hacking sucks.
