xeron, ok i found the perfect atari conkers platform- the Atari Transputer Workstation 800! it's scenerelated in the sense that there's a full mega st2 inside, so it runs a couple thousand demos if you hook up a RGB display. this should do pretty well, even when pitted against the 1541 :-)

Hmm.. actually, i think an A2000 would stand a better chance. Its smaller than the 3500, but its built like a cast iron tank.

Erm..okay...if you wanted to compare the Atari 8-bit machine that was around when the breadbox C64 was released, the Atari would win hands down.
It's no real secret that the current machine at the time (Atari 800) would squash the C64 flat. It was a FAR heavier machine. Seven PCBs, extremely heavy shielding, cast iron... vs the breadbox. Sorry, but that breadbox would be flat as a pancake.
As for vs the 800XL or 65XE, however, I really couldn't tell you.
