Hecker, Sherman pitch biopic about Bushnell
By TATIANA SIEGEL
DiCaprio

Pictures has snapped up a pitch titled "Atari," with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star.
Written by Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman, project is a biopic about entrepreneur Nolan Bushnell, the creator of Atari and one of the founding fathers of the vidgame industry.

DiCaprio will produce via his Appian Way shingle.

Although Bushnell's life rights had long been pursued by various suitors, Hecker and Craig Sherman convinced the gaming pioneer that they could do his unique story justice. Bushnell and Ted Dabney founded Atari Inc. in 1972 and were instrumental in bringing arcade games, home vidgame consoles and home computers to the masses. Among the company's contributions was PONG and the Atari 2600.

Hecker most recently wrote and directed "Bart Got a Room," which was a hit at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.

Hecker and Sherman are repped by Original Artists.

Wait? Today's April 1st?... No...

Well since some music video director freshman is going to turn "Neuromancer" into a movie I though there'd be no more legends to rape. I was wrong obviously...

When are the Amiga and Spectrum movies coming out then?!

bushnell must have an exciting life. but he's not howard hughes, is he? i mean, it doesn't make for a great tragedy or drama.. maybe a comedy?

anyway, unlike atari, bushnell is an ongoing success. not as big as gates or jobs, but he gets around.

Wow. DiCaprio became one of the ultimate best male actors since the falls of De Niro and Pacino.
/me looks forward to the adaptation of Akira rather than Atari (?!)

a movie about the tramiels would have at least a lot of interesting content. one example:

jack tramiel was of polish and jewish descent and during WWII he spent time in a nazi labour camp. as such, he of course hated nazis and probably germany as a whole, too. guess where commodore and atari sold most of their machines ;)

The only problem is, all what Atari did in the beginning was ripping off game ideas that were on the market already years before Atari made its first arcade. The name sells it all. :)
