Announcing the 6510^n C64 Cluster Project

category: general [glöplog]

Something new under the sun, my brethren!

Behold the crappy screenshot.

Quote:
The 6510^n project is about building clusters of Commodore 64 home computers. The machines may be emulated or real. A proof-of-concept open-source implementation in Java is being developed. We welcome contributions of any kind.

Java code actually does something yet. Networking not functional. More soon.

call me stupid, but you're actually planning on running java on commodores? or are you making the cluster pc-controlled, ruining the whole point?

stupid

a cluster of computers that will probably be less powerful than the computer controlling it?

hehe. you didn't get it.

C64 cluster demo ftw.

Really cool! Keep it going!
And if each C64 has a disk drive, you can double the processing power!

Let's see how many C64 it really takes to boot Windows 95

I dare you to implement the OpenGL pipeline out of networked c64s. : D

it could make a fucking awesome video wall and surround system =)))

hehe earx, that's what jumped to my mind when I first read about it. so ..

1) stack up 320x200=64000 C64s
2) get fullscreen 1pixel chunky mode for free !!
3) ...profit, ofcourse!

New release, made at Breakpoint! Networking is now implemented, not yet with zero latency though.

I don't understand what you mean by "not yet with zero latency".. Are you intending to break the laws of physics?

Ofcourse, a c64 cluster goes beyond the restraints of this universe.

ok, what zero latency really means is less than 1 cycle latency.

if chuck norris builds a c64 cluster, it has three modes: zero latency, negative latency and imaginary latency.

Incoming cool wilddemo? :)

hmm, for that i'll need someone who can make a decent demo. i am only the emulator guy. who knows, maybe this just happens one day. no hurry (now that bp08 is over).
