trolls of the world begone

category: general [glöplog]
gloom/ps/all other lamers:
Why don't you just piss off and start an alternative discussion board with invitation or whatever you find valid to get your favorite happy place? I don't get it why you would want to destroy a perfectly working community such as pouët just because you suddenly want to go on some lame crusade to champion the cause of the innocent demoscener who cant join a web forum that fits his idea of "serious" demoscene talk.

Whatever thats is, serious demoscene talk that is. Code wise demoscene is nothing, better join a real developer community instead (there's plenty). Music wise demoscene sucks and gloom should know or he is even more retarded than he pretends. If you think demoscene has any thing to do with design and stuff.. Well, it's all ripped, so fuck off. What is left? A dying idea of how to remake images digitally and how to code applications of a fixed size (read: not as small as possible, just a fixed number of kilobytes). Then you can sit there and discuss and be serious and pretend to be somebody. But to be honest you are just miserable people with a rather lousy hobby.

I recommend gloom and all other demoscene outreach people to visit a shrink and start playing golf or earn skills in your demoscene "profession" so that you can play with the big boys, be it music or coding, on their terms instead of trying to rearrange our playground to some kind of b-level of forum.

Pouët has always been fun, not serious. Just look at the dezin about this website and you'll get the idea. Or maybe you have been to busy disabling all images on pouët and customize your accounts via account2.php that you actually forgot how pouët looks like, try logging out once in a while.

Oh, and remove that nomination of scene.org awards while you're at it, we all know the juries consist of a minor incestuous jury who all pose with leia on slengpung anyways.

Nowadays, this BBS is more like a circus show than anything else.

That's precisely the point. I fail to see why we could not have any serious/interesting discussion here because of a few lamers craving for attention.

Active sceners made this community/hobby/scene what it is with their work and dedication and now they feel they just can't discuss their work because of a few idiots too lame to produce anything ? No way, sorry.

Those idiots have 4chan and the likes, good riddance.

Nice language there, Stefan. Did you just learn that at school today?
Seriously, if you stand 100% behind what you just wrote, I don't get why you wrote the post at all - or why you post anything here at Pouet, really. You're trying to mock all of the demoscene representatives here at Pouet, but you fail miserably by throwing arguments like "there's no real talent in the scene", "everything is ripped", "the music of the demoscene sucks". I can understand if that's how YOU feel, but why bother making the point, since, apparently, the demoscene means NOTHING to you? Why offend to just offend? Where's the POINT?

I'm against banning aswell (well, against banning when being based on the opinion of a select few only), but trying to attach the demoscene outreach tour is just plain stupid. Finally someone had the visionary thought of flipping over the recruitment process (= luring people into the demoscene FROM the gaming/professional industry, and NOT the other way around) and the ability to do so, before narrowminded people like you start laughing at the idea - do you feel threatened? Is there ANYTHING in that story that would NOT be of benefit to the demoscene? If there is, I'd sure like to hear some valid and GROWN up arguments coming from your side, thanks!

It might have been partly fun, but there's definately some serious stuff here aswell - the productions DB, for one thing, is quite a good "representation" of the demoscene - the BBS is not. However, there SHOULD be space for both the unserious and serious parts.

Really? Well, who IS in the scene.org awards jury anyway?

Good observation. With a trumpet, a pig and a vote system based on the Roman Emperor hands you cannot pretend that this place is a serious forum about art.

But... hey! This is not the scene, only a web site with some demowatchers, funny trolls, rude vocabulary (and crude humour) and from time to time, some serious discussion.

Is a waste of time try to change pouet... but you can try other things... like to make moderated threads... who knows, perhaps even works for a while.

radiantx: I might have been, but I don't feel sorry for answering. Some mostly stupid posts have just that liiiittle bit of being serious that justifies you answering to them - I thought this was one of those posts.
Point is, why sit around and talk about the scene (topic.php) when there's actual content (prod.php) that are the only important thing? Theres nothing to "discuss" about the scene unless you are a lame geek who cannot discuss the elementary keys of demomaking. So of course it's all about fun and jokes. If you however want to discuss productions, do so.. Prod.php is waiting for you!

And for spreading info/discussions about demoparties i think pouët behaves rather nicely without any censorship. And guess what? There's demoparty.net.

So, you're saying that all productions are made from the same techniques and there's nothing for sceners to be learned from other sceners?

No shit. And for the very small technical improvements of the demoscene, discussions on more detailed web communities are always more time-worthy since there's often a lot of skilled people who don't give a rat about the demoscene but about the techniques. Generally, however the worshiping of your idols aren't of course lost.

remove the scat bbs from the frontpage and put something useful at this place.

the news or new releases coz after all this page is about releases and not about some bullshit threads of lame trolls who dont get enough attention at their public life.

banning trolls is not really ideal...

but then in a perfect world trolls wouldn't exist at all.

You have complained about it in the past :)

yes i have, and would do so again.

but complaining is not really the same as banning someone...

but then it seems like sometime people have gone too far.

i had this sort of romantic idea that the demoscene was a more utopian community. seems that this illusion was wrong.

i dont know why, but it just sucks that things have come to this. hearing about this decision has affected me slightly.

i suppose i just haven't browsed too many of the more sick threads.

on the other hand, the famous BASS prod thread and other pouetisations which made the site so hilarious may not happen now if people are scared of being banned.

people should know where the line is... its sad that ps has to draw it for them now.

That's bull, people that are remotely active and post a weird picture every once in a while should not be banned ever. It's for these fuckheads that need so much attention they spam everything to shit with stupid image macros en 4chan memes.

Just wondering, has Optimus been banned yet?

i sense anger okkie... fair enough, you use pouet more than me, you have a right to be angry.

i'm just saying i'm disillusioned

lets see what the result is in some months

If this is true, it's been implemented the wrong way around :)

and gwem, you might have missed the fuckfest from last week with Parse, Shane and Nitro and all the other morons screaming like infantile monkeys. Seriously, I'm not the most serious guy on pouet, but these idiots made it a very annoying art.

And Shane used to be pretty funny, but he became trollhungry aswell, such a shame.

okkie: it is a shame people have to act this way indeed..

i'll shake you by the hand and let it go. big up yourself mate.

obviously the demoscene isn't quite the place i thought it was.

Pouet v2 = scene.org = tumble-weed city. either that or the "old trolls" will resurface with no competition from the "newer trolls" they seem to detest so much. ie: the "authorized" popular trolls with friends. but, yeh, we'll see.
