back on crack: make more cracktros!

category: general [glöplog]
We should revive the demoscene! Make more cracktros, not craptros like razor1911 but good cracktros with cool effects/design/music.

Let's revive the scene!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

make up
I can hardly think of some cracktros with cool effects rather than just scrollers. BBStros were much better in this aspect.. ;P

I would like to learn the cracking techniques, except from coding cracktros,. just from curiosity of an alternative coding art. But I am mostly on democoding and I don't have that much time to become a cracker too. Though I would love to crack demos rather than games, for example fix demos which don't run and stuff. Sounds preety hard and crazy job though and never got the time to try it out..

I'm rather serious, actually. If we want new ideas and new blood in the scene we should get the word out. Cracktros have always been a big way people got in contact with the demoscene, so let's revive it. Also, those cracker groups out there need some decent cracktros, because the ones they have right now suck ass :)

VIVA INOPIA.

I want to code cracktros for XXX-DivX sites.
if we wanted new blood in our demoscene, we had to be less negative against n00bs in the 95 till now period, imho...

but, count me in... i luv to do a decent cracktro... let's rip the design of a good equinox demo and say we made those impossible effects of it on PC hardware possible =D

Optimus:

Take a look at Fravias Site.

There is not only cracking tutorials, but also reverse engineering in general on that site, and the content is excellent.

Is there a site that has 2002 or 2003 cracktros online? I visited IntroZone and they stopped collecting it seems at 2001.

I think cracktros suck big time. They're just one routine screens coders do cos they're too lazy to do a proper scene prod.
Cracktros are what got me into the scene. I remember the old a500 days when my friends used to think I was crazy when they wanted to start playing a game, while I was sittning hypnotized in front of the sine scrollers and parallax starfields, refusing to press fire.

Actually, when I started coding years later on the pc, the first stuff I did were remakes of effects I'd seen in cracktros. Everyone else was phongshading torii and loading duck.3ds, while I was drawing starfields, vectorballs, twist scrollers, horistontal scrolling rainbow-colored bars and writing cocky sinescrollers. Pathetically simple stuff (at least on pentium class hardware ;), but it was still a special feeling to code the things that had seemed like magic so many years ago... even if my first few trigonometry classes had revealed most of the secrets of a500 cracktros..

I digress.

It would be nice to revive that tradition, and give today's kids the same experience... so, I'm hereby signing up for some cracktro coding.. come and get me :)

Catch 22: Do you want your "official" handle or email in a cracktro ??

It would root out all the lamers, and coders would go underground again, maybe I'm beginning to see the whole point.

Elitism is back ;)
