Shifter: the only thing left is to filter _out_ AE and see what Mosley's *ahem* contribution actually is :)

According to the analysis by http://www.c64audio.com/timbaland.php the bass line follows the original bassline for most parts, so if that should be one of timbalands contributions to the song is questionable. And c64audio also mentions the rythm, but is a bit vague about it, and I think the drums should be considered part of Timbaland's contribution.

Quote:
c64audio: the three-voice output from the original C64 version has had the bass voice silenced: that missing bass voice then follows the original tune except for a couple of changed notes, and the removal of some octave jumps. However, various technical procedures show that other components of the song (chords/melody/rhythm) have been exactly reproduced. This is vanishingly unlikely to have happened by chance.

Yes, I know. You know. Over here we generally seem to know. But In case you haven't noticed, there's a boatload of people on the world who needed about three comparison videos before they finally got the striking "similarities". And still theres people who argue that Mosley did "a lot of work" on AE to make it into Do It.

Shifter: I actually did a phase-removal of the AE-material from "Do It". It was pretty funny to hear what was left, although I only had an MP3-version of the song so the result was a little muffled. I only wish I had the original ProTools-session files instead; I wish there was some way to get them, but alas; I have learned from the internet that that is called "stealing" (unlike just taking something from the internet, of course, which is prefectly legal).

Oh, if Leia and Gargaj are reading this -- yes, it's sarcasm, without the use of smilies. :)

It's only stealing if you go over to his house and take his Pro Tools. Mosley said so!

And even a muffled version would be interesting enough for starters.

I found the reason why the only game that pops up is Street Fighter, that was probably the explanation of where Timbaland got the sounds before the Acidjazzed Evening controversy. I wonder what the source for that rumor was, I found at one place a person stating that Timbaland had said it was from Street Fighter 2. If so it would be interresting (but i seriously doubt that's the case).

(Or was this known information?)

"Timbo says they both sampled Street Fighter" http://forums.sohh.com/showthread.php?t=813498&page=4

Threads before 2007 mentioning street fighter as source for the sounds in Do It

Okkie: It's okay, just let it all out :)

Shifter: I'll see if I can dig up the file later today.

Shrimp: I just love how people seem to think that a SID is able to play back samples of entire songs. :)

Shifter: Through the magic of teh internets I connected to my home computer and uploaded the files to my homepage.

MP3 - What's left after you phase-remove AE from the "Block Party" ringtone

MP3 - Left channel is "Block Party", right channel is the original

MP3 - Both files faded into each other

Oh, if any IP-infrindgement hungry RIAA-hounddogs are lurking here -- the "Block Party"-sample is from the 30 second free clip, so put down your notepads, tracking-devices and anal-probes.

Had Street Fighter this class music, wouldn't it have been a flop it was...

gloom: nice. hard to get much more blatant, is it.
good job on the drumbeat, timbaland! well worth the money!

now to track down which sample collection torrent the beat came from!

Shrimp: these clowns say a lot of ill-informed things. Wishful thinking on their part, really. The claim is worthless without a solid piece of evidence or a quote from any kind of an interview somewhere.

Gloom: thanks. you weren't kidding about the result being mauled. Too bad I can't find a lossless version of Do It in online stores, I'd buy it in a heartbeat for *ahem* scientific purposes.

The artifacts in Gloom's first MP3 sound like Aphex Twin's "Window Licker" in a certain way. Might be because of the virtually identical bassline, but pssh ;)

Acid Licker kindof makes sense actually.

No, no, I don't believe there are any truth in either of the rumors, not that Timbaland has said he has sampled Street Fighter and not in any way do I belive that Tempest has been inspired by Street Fighter.

But as it has been a rumor in the past, that the strange noises in "Do It" comes from Street Fighter, it makes sense that the die hard fans stick to what they previously "knew" was a fact. It's sort of human thing.

I thought for a while the Street Fighter thing was some sort of rumor that had arisen after the "affair" had gotten known, which it is not.

Indeed, it's quite ridiculous. After listening all the Street Fighter II Turbo tunes for couple of times (+ recording them once) I am pretty confident in saying the rumor is utter bullshit.

It's quite funny how these guys seem to have no ear at all. I guess it's not required when you just sample stuff... ;-)

Gargaj: its kinda standard to wait for money, 3 months or more etc.. till royalties to filter back. A bit like the thing with advances.. its a loan of sorts.. record shops get their cut.. distributors / record company.. then u, the maker of the track.

A lot of people will try to give you a one off payment, hence why others charge so much for their remix work , figures of $10-50,000 are mentioned, BUT the original artist holds the copyright.

As for signing any contract, its normally a heads of agreement form, they have a bit about sample clearence.. depends on the label, if its got uncleared sampled, they will normally have to clear them (if their wise)

It's basically a statement. taking responsibility for your work, its like if you gave me a track, if i was a record label.. how do I know where you sourced the audio?!?!
Gargaj: Actually, I'm pretty sure the drumloop is from some sample-CD. If we could track that down, this thing would take a really cool direction. :)

gloom: that would be comedy gold to find :D
added on the 2007-02-18 13:46:35 by Gargaj Gargaj
gloom : it would be cool, as you probably know when you buy a sample cd your paying for the license to use it in a composition. Hence why they are quite pricey. I find it interesting some sample makers say their cd or dvd sample disk are "royalty free" but in the agreement state if you get in trouble for sampling it, YOUR the one who gets in trouble and has the liability. The people who make them ones, I avoid as if they haven't got faith in their own product says a lot.

I did see the Brit award the other day, Nelly F. was on getting an award "best international female artist" or something.. not even a greet to Janne or GRG ;-)
just curious, are radio interviews is useable as evidence in court? ;-)
