I'm not waiting for the ATI expert@play I've won at Wired'98 because even at the time, it's a real sucky video card.

If the prize is not directly delivered at the ceremony, don't count on it.

xenusion: I'm happy to make demos for the fun instead of the compo prizes, just as long as it doesn't involve being a media whore for random tech companies.

many people go to the party because of the prizes. And many party organizer put the prize on the front of their webpage to give a motivation to the best groups.

I attended a lot of parties in the 90's and I already did not give a shit about prizes at the time. So your "you say that because you don't go to the party..." is totally irrelavant.

Oh right, we won some unexpected 50 euros at Scene Event 2004, one of the very rare times we entered a compo.
Since it was a remote entry, I told one of the cool orgs to keep the money and have a restaurant with his GF instead.

Now, indeed I don't attend parties anymore due to family priorities and remote job locations (USA since 2001 then Canada since 2005).
So what? Does that make my point and creeds less respectable than yours?

Hmmm.. do in demos for prize? Yeah! we made this productin 3 weeks with 4 people and got 10e + diploma.

Keops: you know, whole of the "new" french demoscene can sell their mother to get SMALL fame & BIG compo-prizes :'(

I remember back 15 years before, nobody cares about compo prizes (they were really small)...

Also, I can mentionned most of the winner of LTP4 (including me with 3states' intro) give their hardware prizes to the poor Knos who got his laptop robbed during the party.

Hopefully there's still some nice guys on the place, but no so much...
