leijaa: from his comments about the organization... i think you took it the opposite way: organizers should not put the democompo at 3:xx am when everyone is shit drunk or almost sleeping :-)

Just being picky here, not that I have anything against the results of any party... I'm too old to complain about party results, been there many times in my life :)

trace: unconditional respect is bullshit. you know it. you have to like and respect the demo. why you would feel this way about a production is up to you. as lugge said, just dont expect everyone to feel the way you do.

jcl: haha, you mean we should have the demo compo when the party opened and then just drink ourselves shitfaced the rest of the weekend? Or maybe drop the demo compo all together..? I wonder how many complaints we'd get then.. :D

We were a couple of hours delayed with the compo though, that's true.. Mainly because of the techical difficulties (like, getting a new projector in the middle of it all - no partymeister... )

trace: I guess the guys asking for results yesterday already wouldn't have liked the one week waiting ;) Other than that, I feel you're taking this whole demoscene thing a bit too seriously now. I'm in it for the fun, not for serious stuff (that I leave to the scene.org awards but you bashed that too ;) ... Leaving the votes for later sounds like quite a lot of "too strict and uptight" for me, sorry about that.. Having a jury vote at such a small party also seems weird, that's like saying "sorry guys, you all suck, so we got some people with fancier taste to vote".

One small point that I never get is why some people think that we all should respect and cheer prods just because someone invested a lot of time on it? I mean, you can easily spend a hell of a lot time on a shitty prod, and it'll still be just that, a shitty prod...

I'd rather appreciate what's on the screen rather than what language it's coded in or how long it took to complete...

Oh and another point, results at (small) parties are never ever fair, get used to it :)

oh and one more thing trace, I never said everyone was like this. I tried explaining that a lot of people were though.. Obviously at KG they were more than the serious bunch ;)

well; anyhow; anyway; kinda..... sobering up here now. The party was great, and NOW his demo will be more famous than if it did 1st place anyway :) - a happy ending (hopefully) to a ******* thread ;)

Well, believe me when I say that I really hope you guys are right and that I'm talking nonsense.

trace: you've been too many years on the scene already to complain about party results, also... you should have known this since the early days, it's been always like this (just with less joke demos, but...)

Oh, btw, I think you're misunderstanding me Leijaa, this thread is not about KG, is about the demosceners attitude, it's about people like PS giving a thumb down to a prod like that, it's about people not complaining about the 8th position (like without giving a shit to stuff like that), it's about lack of respect to others work.

I mean, this is just a underground community where the people creates content for it -in a way- for free. You know, people says, why are you doing all this work for free? -well, it's good fun! But then you release the prod and nobody cares about what you do, and then you go to pouet and people gives thumb down for it.

Which, also depends of what a thumb down means. And depends of what you think it is. A thumb down may mean:

- Your work is shit, we don't want your crap around

- I won't play your demo more than once, but thanks for spending your time on it, looking forward for your next one!

Again, I really hope the people things that a thumb down means the 2 option.

Trace: the second you start saying "the organizers should have done something about it" while mentioning a specific production at a specific party, you are badmouthing those organizers, wether you mean to or not..

It's funny thouh, you seem to miss the fact that the same party has a demo made in bash on third place.. So much for not caring about what things are made with :)

Thumb down means;
Your work is utter shite, but since there are laws against me beheading you to stop this constant flow of crap I'll just have to make do with thumbing it down.

Yeay, when I started posting in this thread I actually had serious intentions, now look what all you idiots made me do.. :(
"Your work is shit, we don't want your crap around"
Well, then the creator has to translate it to
"Get better!"

When releasing something, you've gotta be open to people reactions, and you cant demand that people would give their opinions in a nice formulated way. Yeah, people should, i agree, but that isn't what it's like. And, you cant support everyone either, then your feedback wouldnt be worth jack shit.

I do have experiences with this myself, i've even released unfinished demos, just to get a feel of if im going the right direction.

In my view when judging a demo technical/artistic merits should always be held higher than the "fun/joke" factor.
We are talking about a demo-compo, not a joke compo.
Compare to other judged events. Say a snowboard competition or something. If one contestant wears his underwear on his head and falls down a lot in good slapstick fashion, should he get the olympic gold in the halfpipe?
Demos should be judged as demos (tehcnical demonstrations that is), not for the "haha I'm stoned/drunk and that made me laugh"-factor.
Atleast according to me, but I don't think I'm in tune with the "scene" nowadays.

Sdw: well, you're wrong. demos have to be entertaing as well. I guess you think the graphics and music is just a formallity then...

Quisten; nah, never happened to me, but judging from all the pain&bitterness embedded in Loadys soul it must surely suck to be beaten by a smurf-demo...
