blackmarket #228 was originally released at mekka^symposium 2001 as a
demoscene papermag. following an inter-platform approach, it aimed at
providing the reader with the back-then current state of the scene on
on different machines and in different contexts.

the main editing work was done by raver/pht^dcs in riga/latvia,
sceners from around the globe provided articles. final touchups were
done at dipswitch's place in cologne/germany just before the party.
around 200 copies were produced by several enthusiasts and spread at
   mekka^symposium.

originally, the idea was to keep this edition straight paper-only.
then, at some point, we thought about producing a digital version
which still would not make on-screen reading possible, but would at
least print out the mag to be read on paper. however, these plans
   never came to life.

now, over 10 years later, we decided that it would not do the
back-then effort any justice to sit on the original .tiff files just
like that. so we are releasing them now, in order to remind ourselves
on the state of our scene(s) in a not-that-distant past, and also to
pay respect to all the people involved in this undertaking back then
and who are now getting - better late than never - the deserved
audience well above the 200 copies of 2001.

the magazine is a historical document by now. several platforms,
sceners and contexts described there are long gone. the
inter-platform scene spirit, however, that we tried to evoke with
this mag, is stronger than ever.
